I tend to agree with Tim on this. The Afronaut wrote:Well, Im not really a sound guy, so I cant really answer that in a techincal since...but Ive noticed as shows that Sub-Surface has played w/ rock bands and/or punk bands and stuff...all it seems like they need is an amp and a basic PA system...monitors seem optional...and things like that...w/ hip-hop its the sound has to be mixed differently because the focus is on what the MC is saying and the DJ is cutting...it has to be mixed so that both the beat bumps...and the other factions can be heard simultaneously...again...apologies if that doesnt really help...Im not really sure how get it across technically...but I can tell you when I hear a good mix versus a bad one for sure.Oliver's Army wrote:For my own FYI...
How is it different, and what was done to make it better?

Typically a smaller or younger band may have limited funds for decent equipment. They make do with what they have with mediocre sound quality. A lot of punk and some rock is all about distortion and effects and can mask a mediocre mix and a flawed system.
Now plug in an MC and a DJ, especially without a proper soundcheck, I can see how a lazy, or inexperienced soundguy would make it sound weak at best.
It CAN sound good, with decent equipment and a soundguy who knows what he is doing.
I bet I could get you guys to rock.
