Your welcome...you should of come and talked to mike and paul that threw Rockn the Fort. They could have given you pointers on how to make your shows a bigger success. Anything to help the local scene out is for the best!!

Because we are human beings socializing semi-anonymously on a messageboard...and when you throw artistic expression (e.g. musicians) into the mix...well...I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often!

Ok...again Im sorry you dont agree but I stated that it was my opnion and I was not right TWICE in my post. Yes I know midwest runs MMF's sound. Lets just keep it positive!! It was a great show. The level of professionalism put into this show both by the promoters and bands has not been matched! Kudos to everyone!! Keep up the hard work!!

I have to say that it takes major balls to write a review like that. While I may or may not have agreed with it, I respect it. The reactions to these type of critical reviews are not often good which is why I stopped writing them for WhatzUp. I was making enemies by telling the truth (albeit subjectively) and that was not my goal. On a side note, Sirface actually used my review as a part of their press kit, even though I tore portions of their show apart.

You can write 5 glowing paragraphs of everything the band did right, but include two sentences discussing how you believe they could improve, and BAM, they hate you.

It's a major pain in the ass, I tell you. I always feel like people were far too fluffy when discussing my bands and their performances. I'd much rather hear a couple of good things and a couple of things to do better. I often asked people for that, but was seldom given the courtesy.

I believe that Austin's review was good. He had something positive to say about every band. He also had some criticism as well. That is what a review is. I don't think he blatantly "bashed" anybody. I never thought the review was negative. He also mentioned it was his own opinion. He welcomed other's to have their own.

I don't know Austin from Adam but I welcome a review that is not all "praise and glory".

This is a local scene with room to grow. If some constructive criticism helps (along with some praise for what is done right) I see no problem with that and welcome it.

We'd like to thank everyone who came out to support the show on Saturday. Pleasing Melani, Waking Abbott, A New Definition, Teays Vein, Sirface, and Pheen all did a good job and I hope they all enjoyed playing the show as well. It was great to see each band doing their own thing and I enjoyed the entire night of original music!

Let's make sure that we get this right...reviews are not "the truth"...they are a subjective opinion from a single point of view (normally). I think Garr's comments above (about the truth) are sometimes what get reviewers in trouble, making it seem the reviewer is right, and in this case, the bands or other fans are wrong. Its not the truth, its a perspective...not THE PERSPECTIVE.

That's not what reviews are about, though. Its a subjective opinion...you either take it or leave it and the purpose is to give you a reviewer's inside look into something. And really, the purpose of a review, is usually to get more attention for the subject...if it is a bad review, maybe some people will want to come out and see for themselves if it was "that bad". A good review, same thing...gets some people to come see what they are missing. Same for the constructive criticism...a band is only getting critiqued by a single person, so you have to take that with a grain of salt. Maybe there is something to improve on, maybe it was just a misperception of the reviewer...

And on the reviewer's side, one is never going to get 100% of the people to agree with you. But, IMO, if people love your reviews or hate them, you are doing a good job, because people are still reading them. If you are in that field thinking you will make friends and get candy and roses from everyone you review, then I think you are not understanding the reviewer's role.

From my perspective (not at the show), I found the reviews pretty tame, yet informative. I'm not sure I would be inclined to find a show because of it, but that is mainly because that is not how I spend my free time...

The reviews seemed to be written well. We shouldn't bag the reviewer as he just gave all of us valuable insight (agree with it or not) into a show that some of us didn't see and gave members of these bands at least one perspective from someone that was there. I'm sure if every band got 10 reviews like this from every show, they'd be a lot better because of it!

Are you really going to dispute the validity of the truth of opinion?

I mean, your rant is somewhat off-base when compared to those who don't express their true feelings when giving reviews and you've completely ignored that aspect in your steam blowing.

The truth for me is different than the truth for you when it comes to things subjective like a review, but that doesn't make them any less true and I resent your comments because they imply (regardless of intent) something dishonest.
