It is tough being a Republican in 2007

It is tough being a Republican in 2007.

Somehow you have to believe concurrently that:

* Jesus loves you, but shares your deep hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.
* A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all humankind without regulation.
* The United States should get out of the United Nations, but our highest national priority is enforcing U. N. resolutions against Iraq and Iran.
* "Standing Tall for America" means firing your workers and moving their jobs to India.
* Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.
* The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.
* A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense. A president lying about WMD existence to enlist support for an unprovoked, undeclared war and occupation in which thousands of soldiers and hundreds of thousands civilians die, is, somehow, solid "defense" policy in a "War against Terrorism".
* Group sex and drug use are degenerate sins, unless you someday run for governor of California as a Republican.
* If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.
* A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, but then demand their cooperation and money.
* Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy. Providing health care to all Americans is socialism.
* HMOs and insurance companies make profits and have the interest of the public at heart.
* Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.
* Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him and Rumsfeld reassured him he was our buddy. A bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him. But, then a bad guy again when Bush junior needed a prop for his re-election campaign as the "war president".
* Iran was a good country when Ford and Rumsfeld and Cheney, along with General Electric, gave them our nuclear technology in the 1970's. Good guys when Cheney did business with them in the 1990's. But, then bad guys when Bush junior needed a prop for his re-election campaign as the "war president".
* Iraq was a good country when Reagan and Rumsfeld gave them our chemical warfare technology in the 1980's. Bad guys when we authorized their overflights to gas their own population, and then good guys, again, when Cheney did business with them. But, then bad guys when Bush junior needed a prop for his re-election campaign as the "war president".
* It is okay that the Bush family's "Carlisle Group" has made millions doing business with the Bin Laden family.
* Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which should include "banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet".
* The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's illegal insider Harken Oil stock trade should be sealed in his Daddy's library, and is none of our business.
* What Bill Clinton or John Kerry did in the 1960s was of vital national interest but Bush & Cheney's drug and alcohol felony arrests in the '80s are irrelevant.
* Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a "spirit of international harmony".
* Affirmative Action is wrong, but it is OK for your Daddy and his friends (here and in Saudi Arabia) to get you to graduate from Yale without studying much; to dodge the draft in the Texas Air National Guard; to bail out your company Harken Oil and the Texas Rangers; to get the Governorship of Texas and then to have the Supreme Court appoint you President of the USA.
* You are a conservative, but it is OK to spend like there is no tomorrow and run up deficits that your grandchildren will have to pay, while at the same refunding as much tax money as possible to rich people who do not need it.

This illogical behavior can take a toll on a healthy mind. So if a friend of yours has been acting a bit dazed and confused lately, be nice: he or she may be a Republican!

Okay, fine....

It is tough being a Republican in 2007.

Somehow you have to believe concurrently that:

* Jesus loves you, but shares your deep hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton. - Believing that a behavior is sinful and that homosexual marriage should not be legal is a far cry from "hate". Furthermore believing that Mrs. Clinton's policies are bad for the country is a far cry from "hating" her.
* A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all humankind without regulation. - a woman is fully entrusted with every decision regarding her own body. It's the killing of the human being residing within her body that should be illegal.
* The United States should get out of the United Nations, but our highest national priority is enforcing U. N. resolutions against Iraq and Iran. "I used her, she used me, neither one cared..."
* "Standing Tall for America" means firing your workers and moving their jobs to India. - More jobs have been imported than exported due to NAFTA and GATT (signed by Clinton, btw) and they pay better than the jobs that were sent overseas.
* Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery. - Selling drugs to children is a moral failing and a crime. Taking them is an illness, regardless of who you are.
* The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay. Who did that?
* A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense. A president lying about WMD existence to enlist support for an unprovoked, undeclared war and occupation in which thousands of soldiers and hundreds of thousands civilians die, is, somehow, solid "defense" policy in a "War against Terrorism". Once again, there is a major difference between lying and being wrong. Also, Congress authorized war, including Mrs. Clinton. Furthermore, Mr. Clinton lied, under oath, to a sitting Judge, in a civil trial regarding his sexual harrassment of Paula Jones. At said trial, it was also revealed that while Governor of AR he had harrassed other women, and years earlier had actually raped a woman - Juanita Broderick.
* Group sex and drug use are degenerate sins, unless you someday run for governor of California as a Republican. Most Republicans don't really care for Arnie...
* If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex. - no one believes that. We just don't believe it's the government school's place to hand them out. It's the parent's responsibility. Or the child's. If you're not mature enough to go get them, you're not mature enough to use them.
* A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, but then demand their cooperation and money. You mean France?
* Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy. Providing health care to all Americans is socialism. - It is socialism. What else would you call it.
* HMOs and insurance companies make profits and have the interest of the public at heart. - no, we believe Lawyers are the cause of much of the skyrocketing healthcare costs - that and drug companies.
* Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools. Not worth addressing
- Iran was our enemy, Iran was Iraq's enemy. "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." dumb in hindsight, good policy at the time.
His family does not support him. They have disowned him
* Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which should include "banning queer marriages and censoring the Internet". This is just downright stupid.
* The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's illegal insider Harken Oil stock trade should be sealed in his Daddy's library, and is none of our business. Illegal Insider Trading???? That's a pretty hefty accusation
* What Bill Clinton or John Kerry did in the 1960s was of vital national interest but Bush & Cheney's drug and alcohol felony arrests in the '80s are irrelevant. Felony arrests?????
* Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a "spirit of international harmony". Republicans don't like it either
Oh come on! Not worth bothering to comment on.
* You are a conservative, but it is OK to spend like there is no tomorrow and run up deficits that your grandchildren will have to pay, while at the same refunding as much tax money as possible to rich people who do not need it. - So, who determines who needs it? And tax cuts increase revenues. Always have, always will.

This illogical behavior can take a toll on a healthy mind. So if a friend of yours has been acting a bit dazed and confused lately, be nice: he or she may be a Republican!

There. This was a total waste of intelect.

re-debated. :?

I'm not smart enough to digest that much info.
Can you fine tune it down so a little?

Well, Brad, about half your arguments were worth reading. Note that I don't claim affiliation to any party (nor do I think I ever will) because I (like George Washington) don't believe in a bi-partisan or poly-partisan government.

Had I found a list of Democrat or Libertarian paradoxes or contradictions, I would have listed them too. Of the arguments made, a lot of them are based on semantics, man. It's a straw-man attempt to draw the point away from the actual issue as opposed to seeing past the poor wording and/or writing ability of the author and getting to the grit.

Listen to Lewis Black or perhaps David Cross; hell, even Eddie Izzard for a minute. They're far more articulate and Izzard has a better grasp of American politics and actions than 95% of the citizens. It's amazing how the view of an outsider can open your eyes to the bullsh*t you've been sleeping in.

Again, though, I say that these are not my arguments, merely a list of statements I happened to stumble upon.

Listen to Lewis Black
I did once...painfully about ten years ago while on vacation in Las Vegas with my in-laws (don't ask).

He was, by far, the most idiotic back then and still pretty much is today. If you want to drag out "comedians n'politics", I would suggest the works of Penn Gillette.

So a woman comes around 21 years later with a story of how Bill Clinton raped her. Gosh, that has a lot of validity to it. I'm not trying to say "that woman is a liar, what a hoe", but at the same time, how can you say "revealed that he had actually raped a woman" when there is no basis for proof there? Her word against his. Now if you show me Bill Clinton saying "yeah, I raped her", or medical evidence showing something from Bill during a medical exam immediately after the rape occurred with files charged in 1978, then it might be said that "the trial revealed that Clinton raped a woman".

But, you know, some people don't believe statistics or evidence and will take someones word for anything. So until then...Kobe is a rapist. Bill Clinton is a rapist. Michael Jordan had an affair - rapist. Thomas Jefferson? Rapist. JFK? Rapist. Anyone else you can think of that has had an affair? Rapist. Santa Claus flies in a sleigh. The Easter Bunny is in my Garden. Iam the forking walrus, goo goo g'joob.

Yeah, it's tough to be a LIBERTARIAN in 2007 as well. You sit and watch BOTH SIDES clamor for solutions to all the world's problems, and they always involve more government, more spending, reduced liberties, and even more taxes. Government is the problem, not the solution.
