I'm not much of a pop fan, I drink a lot of water and milk. I remember a can of some random cola that had been sitting around too long and had developed a carmalized phlegm.

milk
Has always freaked me out to an extent. It's from a cows boob, sorry I just find that weird.
it still stains teeth and leaches calcium!
So do lots of things done in excess. It's not like drinking one Coke will exponentially lower your bodies calcium.

Hell soy sauce stains the teeth but I'm still putting that on rice. I've got some toothpaste that counteracts teeth staining; so I'm all right.

From a bone doctor I know: dont drink caffeinated soda.

Yeah, because dentists always say the following factors contribute the most strongly to stained teeth: smoking, coffee, soda, soy sauce.

From an MD I know: don't listen to loud music.

Just because a doctor says we shouldn't do it doesn't mean we're going to listen.

Actually they claim juices do the most staining. EX: grape.

Sure all of those things stain teeth but I have the toothpaste to fight it!

as far as the doctor thing, you shifted the context and i have no idea what your point is.

as far as toothpaste: yes, and that same toothpaste is committing atrocities against your gums and enamel. (PS: dentists are retarded. i had a cavity one time so i started talking sh*t about soda and the damage that the concentrated sugar does on teeth. he's like "dont blame soda, blame the ridges in your teeth." <- duuuuuuumbassssssssss)

No I didn't, I wrote it out:

Just because a doctor says we shouldn't do it doesn't mean we're going to listen.

My point is lots of things are harmful to the human body, and a lot of them involve things we enjoy. Just because it's harmful and just because a doctor says we shouldn't do it doesn't mean people are going to stop.

So, soda makes you lose calcium; loud music makes you lose hearing. Doctors will tell you to avoid both.
as far as toothpaste: yes, and that same toothpaste is committing atrocities against your gums and enamel.
So I should just not brush my teeth?
(PS: dentists are retarded. i had a cavity one time so i started talking poop about soda and the damage that the concentrated sugar does on teeth. he's like "dont blame soda, blame the ridges in your teeth." <- duuuuuuumbassssssssss)
I think technically your dentist is correct. If your teeth were lacking ridges there would be no place for the sugars to stick, ergo no places for cavities to develop. I think you were the victim of a dentist's inside joke.

You're being pedantic to the maxxx and it's having a terrible affect on my libido.

"My point is lots of things are harmful to the human body, and a lot of them involve things we enjoy."

It's weird that you say that, because it had nothing to do with discussion at hand.

"Just because it's harmful and just because a doctor says we shouldn't do it doesn't mean people are going to stop. "

And someone said something to the contrary?

"So I should just not brush my teeth?"

If you're worried about your teeth, you should cut back on the stuff that harms them in general. You know, the whole cause and effect thing. (THEN brush with a soft brush with a toothpaste that isn't too heinous in the abrasive department. ever had toothpaste in your mouth and grinded your teeth? it's scary)

"If your teeth were lacking ridges there would be no place for the sugars to stick, ergo no places for cavities to develop. I think you were the victim of a dentist's inside joke."

Post hoc ergo propter hoc. (i just italicized a latin phrase, damn that's funny)

He wasn't kidding; he was dead serious. It reminds me of the doctors who used to smoke while servicing their patients.

"What do you call someone who couldn't get through medical school?"
"I dunno."
"A dentist."

People tell me I take things to literally, so I'll take this as a compliment. It reminds me of the David Cross bit about usage of the word 'literal'.

You said you didn't see a previous point of mine. This was that point. Discussions flow and don't always stay on topic. I'm sorry if that bothered you.

No worries here. I know how to floss. After having braces for 3 years I know the value of it.

Well then he seems uninformed; or he's a lobbyist for the soda industry.

Two observations, either of which might devito this whole thing.....

1. Y'all can get awful in-depth, analytical and pissy about a simple topic. Sheesh. Lighten up.

2. Having said that, I humbly challenge the mythbusters on the use of Coke to clean the roads. I point to the use of Coke syrup in our very own Memorial Coliseum during indoor racing and monster truck shows. Helps the traction on the concrete, AND makes it easy to clean the rubber off the floor at the end of the show.

Just my .02 worth.

Oh, and PEPSI rules! But I can understand a vote for Dr Pepper, too....

Again, screw Pepsi and screw lightening up!
Post hoc ergo propter hoc. (i just italicized a latin phrase, damn that's funny)
Now, does anyone want to translate? (yes, I'm joking after years of taking Latin.)

bleh...

Coffee, red wine and tea stain teeth. I'm still going to drink them.

Some jackass dentist (fresh outta school) told me to get rid of my tongue ring. He was overstepping his bounds. He went on about it getting infected, yet knew next to nothing about piercing aftercare (and this was years after the piercing had healed).

Listening to doctors can be good. But with EVERYTHING, take some moderation... Colas, seriousness and THIS THREAD are good examples of things to take in moderation.

Nothing in excess.

That means everything in moderation--including moderation.
