Maynard sounds alot different...
Alot of it sounds intentionally unpolished.
THE MUSIC BUSINESS IS A CRUEL AND SHALLOW MONEY TRENCH, A LONG PLASTIC HALLWAY WHERE THIEVES AND PIMPS RUN FREE AND GOOD MEN DIE LIKE DOGS. THERE'S ALSO A NEGATIVE SIDE.

i think i agree...i have to hear it a few more times, but i definitely think that the melody was already partially used in schism.

I heard the entire album today and I hate to say it but I was dissapointed. The songs aren't necessarly bad but It's not the "blow me away" affect I'm used to from tool. Sorta sounds the same like I heard most of it before....on lateralus. What once again bugged me (also like lateralus) is that it had 11 tracks but maybe 6 songs. ie..one track would seem like an extended intro into the song right after it.

Heard the album as well.

If it were any other band, most impressive. As it's not any other band.. I think the miracle has finally ended. Goodbye, fair Tool, you will be missed!

Call it Lateralus part 2 if you want, it still hits hard and kicks ass. I don't see what you fellas are "cryassin'" about. Its far better than any Perfect Circle album, its better than the latest releases from thriving groups like System of a Down.

Oh yeah, talk-box=always awesome

Yeah, yeah.. but... it's TOOL, dude, TOOL.

Yeah, but again.. TOOL. You shouldn't have to make excuses for them, the album should've be a direct transmission from whatever one may consider heaven and nothing less.

Ignore the following if you're prone to taking offense:

IMHO, if you can't live up to the hype, call it quits. Don't try to slightly satiate us, just say, "We couldn't forking do it, so f**k you" and call it. I would've respected that, wouldn't you? It just seems that so many people are panning the effort already, I don't see how they're going to keep that golden reputation intact. And again, many people were let down with lateralus, but still, there was that pure respect. This time, I have lost faith!

I know its TOOL, man. All I'm saying is that everyone else's new albums have let me down in some big way lately, with the exception of Built to Spill. This new TOOL album is just as good as Lateralus.

I concede that to you, you're absolutely right. One more cliche, hypothetical question: How often do you listen to Lateralus? I suppose it all hinges on that.

I may be in the minority but I loved perfect circle's thirteenth step. I like it better than lateralus (which I was a little let down by) So, since this feels like part 2 to me, it also let me down a bit.

I do agree the talk-box part was awesome, but an entire album it does not make for me.

Still, I would probably rather listen to the new album than a lot of the drivel out there today but it doesn't compare to the eariler albums IMHO.

I have a lot of music that I listen to, man. But I probably listen to Lateralus at least once a month, I even shelled out $30 to buy the double vinyl version of it because I wanted to hear it on a nice turntable and get that warmth out of it. It remains one of my cherished vinyl possessions. I've said I hold Lateralus in very high regards before.

I do think Aenima is their best, though. It got me into them and it was the first band that freaked me out how good they were.

I disagree. It's up to the fans to 'hype' up a new album. TOOL is making music. It's what they started off doing and it's what they're doing now. If you set yourself up for disappointment, that's your own damn fault.

Always expect the worst and you'll never be disappointed.
