Damn right I'm gonna piss and moan; because that tax money is still MY MONEY they are taking. It doesn't matter if it's a penny or $500. Who's gonna benefit from this? Let's see, the construction companies, the Wizards, whoever got their palms greased to shove this walking fraud and disaster down our throats. . .
Most of the Fort's outdoor venues already sit idle most of the year. This amphitheatre is lipstick on a pig. It will drain resources from the other venues the city already has to maintain. That means even less money to attract Wilco to town.
The fork was stuck in downtown FW in the 50's when I69 was routed AROUND the city, and not through it. Anyone investing their OWN money and not other peoples' sees that all the action in FW is North and Southwest. You wanna spend millions of other peoples' tax dollars to improve downtown? First, reroute 69 through town and watch market forces solve the dead downtown issue for you.
Just because someone trying to do something doesn't necessarily make it noble or correct. Give me the land and I'll open a lemonade stand - at least that's doing something, isn't it? If the city wants to pimp its land to some venture, give to a factory that generates wealth and doesn't just redistribute it from one pocket to another.
And I am not one of those who complains that there is nothing to do in FW. There is surprisingly plenty to do in a city our size; it's just not downtown, and/or where you have to pay to park. Market forces have voted to put the action elsewhere; and our politicians should pay attention – WE are!

I have and it's a decent town, but it's cold as crap in winter. They've done a great job in rebuilding it from a dying rust-belt town into a very nice city in not too long of a time. If you hate what they're doing in fort wayne though, you're seriously going to dislike the socialists up there. It's not as bad as the people's republic of Madison, but it's close.

You b**% and moan about "YOUR TAXES" going to this.
Look at you next pay stub...look at EXACTLY how much you pay in state and local taxes.
Then figure..what? maybe 10% of *that* is actually going to go to these projects.
What does that up to? Maybe $50 bucks a year?
Now look at what stupid sh*t you piss away $50 in a year over.
And don't lecture me about tax dollars and where it goes...Its how the world turns. You pay taxes...people spend it.
You want to change how the wheel turns, run for office and change it.
Its not the best system, but its the one we have. Other wise find your utopia and move there.
Jeebus H people. Someone is at least *trying* to improve this town.
forking hypocrites. You complain when there's nothing to do and complain when someone offers up ideas.
Shut the hell up already or do something about it.
I embrace all of the ideas coming across the table. Anything is better than nothing.
So go blow you $50 on booze or weed or esoteric audio cables or whatever and stay the hell out of downtown when the fun starts happening
Just because we don't want our tax money being spent on worthless stuff like this doesn't mean we want it to go get drunk or do drugs.
If we can't book all our outdoor venues obviously this isn't that good of an idea.
and nobody was really bitching and moaning, they were making points.
I think this is a pretty stupid idea myself, but I also think the new baseball stadium is stupid. There is no pride for the Wizards. People don't walk around saying, "Hey you guys see that Wizards game?!?!"... People just don't care.
btw.. i saw the Mad Antz... terrible. There were less than 1000 people there for sure, and no body was excited at all. and they suck. and so does the really bad "hype" music they play to get the crowd into it.
People don't care about the wizards and the Mad ants because there is absoulutely no marketing put behind them. Every now and then you may here a comercial but that is rare. If they made an atttempt to advertise and market the events they would sell well. I go to wizard games all the time, I am a fan of baseball. We are a city of baseball fans.
I can only think of two outdoor venues in this city Headwaters and Follinger. Headwaters is always being used in the summer and Follinger is just hidden away that is a major reason it doesn't get used.

..not that I have any better ideas, I'm just sayin'...
You mean you wouldn't want to attend an outside concert on a day like today?
I should clarify my stance on these 'projects'...it isn't that I am AGAINST growth and progress and giving the people things to do, but the projects that they have slated and are now in the works do NOT fit what this town needs...
If this town could sustain a venue like that then why are there not private developers lining up to make it happen...
The best approach to this would have been to offer up 120 million dollars in tax incentives to encourage PRIVATE companies to invest their money into this town.
We are loosing industry at record pace...we can't even get long standing companies to grow and expand in town. We are loosing them not only to larger more developed cities, but even to the 'outskirts' of town.
Sweetwater...why are they not moving TOWARDS the town and taking advantage of acre upon acre of unused land WITHIN the city? Why are they heading out into the sticks? We should have given them anything and EVERYTHING they wanted in order to KEEP them in this town...yeah they are just down the road, but it is only a small example of how even locally owned and operated businesses are flocking OUT of the grasp of the city...a city that seems to only concern itself with lining the pockets of the politicians that run it...it isn't about the people...it is about a few councilmen being able to flip property on YOUR dime...
Yes a stadium is a great 'idea', but when it was brought to the city as an INDOOR venue that would be much larger than the coliseum and host the komets and MANY great concerts that even the expanded coliseum can't provide us it was 'shunned' by this town...now however the town (the city council elect) has managed to find a way to use our TAX money to build something that nobody seems to want...
So to state fact...I am all about progress. As long as the progress is THOUGHT THROUGH and done WITHOUT ulterior motives as this 'project' has the stink of...
Bring in PRIVATE businesses that involve the company living up to some level of MERIT and not a guaranteed paycheck because they know someone who landed them a job...need I mention Randy Brown...someone who needs ONLY to keep status quo and filter money out to the right people...
