I guess I see the problem with Piere's hosting the Libertarian "Rally for Rights". At Piere's, they now make you turn your hat forward. That's just a small thing to most people, but I haven't worn my hat forwards on a regular basis in about 15 years. I don't know why, but it's just more comfortable backwards. The hat is now formed to my head backwards. It doesn't even fit correctly the other way now. So I go to Piere's for a friend's 21st, and the doorman throws this big-ass hissy about how I've got to turn it around, take it off, or leave. I can't take it off (my hair is a wild bush at this point) and I can't leave my friend's party (I hadn't even gotten in yet) so I turned it around.

Piere's says that they stand against this law because it is unfair and infringes on people's right to take place in a legal activity. I then see hypocrisy in them enforcing rules that infringe on my right to wear a hat as I please.

Piere's says that this law will hurt their business. I know that the rule will prevent me from ever going back unless I absolutely have to (probably never).

Studies have shown that people who dress 'black" are more prone to be violent at clubs that make money by repeatedly playing black music steeped in stereotype.

It's true.

Does a 15 year old White Sox baseball cap turned backwards count as dressing 'black'? I don't even remember why I turned it backward in the first place (though I do remember that Kriss Kross made me want to jump, jump). I'm fairly sure it's just more comfortable that way.

Either way, I just find it a tad hypocritical to support everyone's freedom to smoke (which probably has some effect on other people's health) while restricting my right to wear a hat backward (I've yet to bust cap in any asses - no matter how desreving).

I was going to say something very wrong here. I deleted it and typed this instead.

I guess that busting a nut on the small of Anderson's back doesn't count, eh?

Refer all questions to club management who continue to make dollars playing music but not allowing the clothing.

Many times (especially at Pieres) wardrobe violations are enforced by any given bouncer at any given time. I am not defending Pieres, but more so pointing the finger at a meat-head frat jock on a power trip.

Which is a reflection on management. I can't remember the name of Piere's new club (want to say "V"), but their dress code was specifically targeted to ensure nobody who got their wardrobe cues from a rap video would be let in.

However, Piere's is a privately owned business and they can set any sort of dress code they want to set, however racist or downright silly it may be. They can also allow any sort of legal activity in their club they want to allow. That's the beef with the law. Smoking is (still) legal, last I checked. Piere's (and every other bar/restaurant/business) in town is a privately owned enterprise. They should not be restricted as to what sort of legal activity they allow at their place of business.

and for the record, I will likely be wearing my cap backwards tomorrow night. I bet I can take the bouncer

I agree that they should be allowed to decide what activities to allow in their business. I just think it's a bit ironic that they are the ones supposedly championing people's rights in this case.

Very good youth org I used to work for required kids to wear hats either forward or back, but not turned to either side.

I don't know how many kids came up to me and said, "Gee, I was just gettin' into that gang-bangin' scene, shootin' homies left and right; but you peoples' hat rules caused me to reevaluate that decision. And I jus' straightened up and flew right!"

I'm guessing the head of security went to a conference on gangs and learned how various gangs will tilt their caps to one side or the other or wear it backwards or off to one side to represent their affiliation. Then he went WAY overboard with it.
