SURVEY: How did your band get it's name?

Post by The_Dude »

There are some very interesting stories out there about how members of the band decided on their band name. I'm curious to hear yours and I'm sure there are others who would enjoy reading about it as well.

We were going to cover a CCR tune and our Sax player's brother (and our good friend ) Sam was over listening to us.

Sam :: "No you can't play that song!"

Band :: "Why?"

Sam :: "Because Melani hates CCR"

Band :: "What? Is our name Pleasing Melani???"

So it became. I say "band" because i cant remember who actually had that conversation it was either me or my brother. Melani was Sam's Ex girlfriend.

The banjo man is a history buff (as am I) and was one day discussing how both sides during the Civil War had spies that hung around the river beds spying and sabatoging and doing things that spies do. They were called River Agents. Adam says, "Hey that'd be a great band name." I said, "Since we're from the North and we've got the big ol' Lincoln Museum here, how about 'North River Agents'?" Adam said, "I think we've got a name." Then we voted and everyone dug it.

Or something like that... That's pretty close I think.

channel 90- we are a band that exclusively covers 90's rock/alternative music, so i thought channel 90 would be a great fit.

In highschool before I played an instrument, my mom had a dream that I played in a famous band named Left Lane Cruiser. We hadn't yet settled on a name, when we met someone in Oxford, Mississippi who was affiliated with Fat Possum Records. We gave him a demo, and had to have a name to accompany it. The entire trip we were surrounded by "Merge Left", and "Left Lane Closed" signs. With all things considered, it only seemed right that we be named Left Lane Cruiser.

I always assumed the name North River Agents came about because the members in the band wanted the initials NRA.

Not a slam, just my observation.

Chasing Darwin - A wide variety of people either love or hate Charles Darwin's work on evolution. Always through of it more of a mob of thought, rather than people who have more questions or want to engage in debate. Hence the name "Chasing Darwin".

btw....the band currently consists of me, me, and the guy who is typing this post right now...

. . .and MOST people who like to slam on Darwin and his writings. . .have NEVER read them. . .

I hate people like that. I have only read a tiny bit of it (blurbs here and there) and as such, keep my mouth shut.

It's like all those people who protested Dogma and none of them had seen it or even knew what it was about. Idiots.
There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those who understand binary. . .

. . .and those who don't.

Nah, that was just a side benefit

And, we're not all conservatives. If we tried that we'd be without our incredible fiddle player (who voted for Dukakis!!!) and the banjo man...

plus.....it's NoRA, as opposed to NRA, which makes all the difference, right?
