I'm still trying to figure out what I feel about Lost Boys of Sudan. I am angry that we brought them here with so many promises, then stuck most of them in one of the worst housing complexes in Houston and expected them to just make it on their own. Criminal. I also found it interesting that they developed their own biases about black americans so quickly, based solely on the black americans they were forced to deal with in that housing complex. That and how quickly they picked up on American cultural taboos - "they will think you are homosexual..."

And of course, it is especially disheartening that things in Sudan are no better now (probably worse) than they were 5 years ago when the movie was released.

Some positives... The group of high school kids that took Peter into their group and accepted him so readily. Interesting that the people who were most helpful to them were all Christians, and to my knowledge POV is not a Christian-based movie company. Not making any statements, just an observation. I also thought the high school basketball coach seemed like a shining example of what a high school basketball coach should be - tough, yet kind and gentle at the same time. When he cut the kids he had to cut, including Peter, I thought he handled that very well.

Aside from that I'm still processing it...

Some of the claims are downright ridiculous. I did manage to procure two books by two of the interviewees, so we'll see how that goes. Quantum Theory alone is pretty insane. I recommend "Introducing Quantum Theory" - the only comic book that will ever really really really stump you.

I will check that out. I just came away from that film completely pissed-off because it felt like I was being berated for not thinking the way these people do.

Why? Did you think the guy was a jerk? I've played for a few coaches in my day, and let me tell you. That was one heckuva nice coach. I never got cut, but I had friends who did and usually it was a matter of their name not being on the "stay on" list the next day being how they found out.

I just dont care for basketball so I never factored that particular area into my analysis. I'm not against the guy, I just dont feel the same way you did - other than that, it was complete agreeance. (I'm a stickler)
