I actually just got home from this movie. It was alright at best. The squirrely does make 2 references to his nuts so there's slight adult/childish humor.
On a 1-10 scale it gets 6.

I can imagine the voice casting process for this one:

A-Who can we get?
B-What are you looking for?
A-Recognizable names with no talent attached.
B-I have JUST the pair!

I think Dreamworks' computer animated films blow Pixars' out of the water. (except Antz, that wasn't very good)
But I could watch Shrek, Shrek 2, Robots, Madagascar, and Over the Hedge over and over again.
Sure Pixar produces great movies and all, but I really feel they fall short of Dreamworks' in style, writing, originality, etc.

I don't even know where to begin.

1. "Antz" was a thinly veiled copy of "A Bug's Life" which was way into production when Dreamworks got a wild hair up their collective asses and decided to delve (half-assed) into making computer animated films.

2. "Robots" was awful, deal with it. Robin Williams should have just voiced the Genie in "Aladdin" and stopped right there.

3. The "Shrek" series of films is as overrated as the Rolling Stones. What, he's and ogre and he farts a lot? Good God, that's a hilarious premise for a film. Lets give him an annoying "urban" sidekick and watch the poor pop culture references ensue. I love Mike Meyers, I love old Eddie Murphy films and stand-up. I cannot get into these trash piles. (One exception to my rule, when Murphy says, "...and in the mornin', I'm makin' waffles." Makes me laugh everytime.)

4. The "Ice Age" series is laughable, way to steal a great scene from "Willow" (sliding through the glacier caverns) and then set it to Rusted Root of all bands. Oh, and Queen Latifah is the new draw for part two? WTF!

5. Dreamworks made a solid business decision when they decided to start making CG animated films. And though they have made some considerable coin with the "Shrek" films, the quality of animation and the writing are kid's shoes compared to the Pixar empire. They hopped (again, half-assed) on the CG bandwagon when it was still young. And its no wonder there CG films are so terrible, look at their 2-D films (Road to El Dorado? Prince of Egypt? Sinbad?).

6. I work at a new/used cd store that also deals in DVDs. Ask me how often I see a Dreamworks DVD over my counter for sale.....almost once a day! Now ask me how often I see a Pixar film.....almost never, I've literally seen one copy of "Finding Nemo" and one copy of "The Incredibles" in my year of employment. This equates to only one conclusion in my mind, Pixar movies are timeless and Dreamworks films are mostly trash. I have had four different people bring in "Madagascar" in the past week. Didn't that just come out on DVD like a month or so ago, pretty lousy.

I don't see how it could go wrong. You have Zemeckis producing (Back to the Future Trilogy, Forrest Gump, Frighteners) and although I normally cannot stand his work, Michael Bay is a perfect choice for this film as director. I don't want some dramatic, stapled-on plot, I just want robots in disguise, transforming from vehicle/airplane/mneumatic canon/tape deck, and kicking the crap out of one another. Oh, and I want to see Jazz and Bumblebee in there, and Starscream.

Depending on what time frame they use, Starscream might already be dead.
