There are soooo many other factors than steroids to consider that its ridiculous.
Technological advnces in sports gear, baseballs themselves, the way bats are made today as opposed to yesteryear, the way that athlete's condition themselves with weight training and what not that wasn't widely used way back when, all this sh*t and more needs to be talked about. Not jut steroid usage.

I tend to take the stance that it is, & has been, a pretty equal playing field from the standpoint that if you're going to assume that Bonds took steroids, you have to also assume that other players, including pitchers, took them as well. The media almost acts like Bonds was the only one who cheated. What about Clemens? This guy is HUGE, still throws the ball pretty damn hard...Oh, wait a minute, he just kinda disappeared when all of this steroid stuff.........hmmm. Yeah, Bonds is a d*ck & the whole issue is an ethical mess, but, he's not the only guy to blame.
The real question here is............."Are you ready for some football?"

Clemens didn't disappear! He was the most dominant pitcher in the majors last year. He's 42.
He'll be playing again in about 3-4 weeks. He's just making sure he's got enough gas to make it thru the playoffs.

Does it really matter if an overpaid athlete does some preformance enhancing drug? IMHO, no.
Think of how many musicians have used 'preformance enhancing' drugs and we still dig all of them.
Didn't Bill Hicks do a bit on that?

Add to that the fact that the stadium sizes, ergo distance needed to get one over the fence, has also changed in the intervening years. As has the number of games per season (which would impact more on a per-season record).Massage...Bored wrote:There are soooo many other factors than steroids to consider that its ridiculous.

Does it really matter, no. But, when they try to hide that fact, while steroids are illegal (both in and out of sports), it does make a difference.
Heck, I wouldn't mind if they created a new league that allowed steroids, just as long as the "clean" league stayed clean.
Comparing musicians to athletes to actors is kinda apples and oranges. Sure, they are all entertainers, but there are different rules to their "stages" that should be maintained.
If you are paying money to see ballplayers that are not on steroids, then it does matter. If kids are growing up thinking they need to use them to be a big leaguer, than yes, it does matter. Nobody really cares if musicians are smoking weed, popping pills or worse...as they are not competing in the same sense as sports...competition in sports is supposed to be on a level playing field...

Deek, I agree.
However, IMHO competition has never been about a level playing field. It's always about having an advantage, physical or mental.

Ok, yes, that is true, it is about having an advantage, mental or physical, but I don't think that includes performance enhancing drugs...and that is more what I think about when talking about the level-playing field...
It should be about competition, not cheating, and in my opinion, that kind of stuff that enhances the body like steroids, is cheating...

That's my point. He was the most dominant pitcher in the game last year & where is he? I still think he's possibly staying "under the radar" with all of this steroid stuff. The guy is HUGE. Actually, the real point is that players, other than Barry Bonds, may have used steroids at some point in time.
As far as the modern stadiums go; back in the day, I believe right field in Yankee stadium was specifically brought in to increase home run production for Babe Ruth (314 ft.).
As far as players go: I still think it's a pretty equal playing field when you compare the statistics of today's game with the game of year's past. Sure hitters have progressed, but so have pitchers.

Well, I personally don't think Clemens has ever used roids. I just believe he's a freak of nature AND arguably the best pitcher to ever play the game. It's a shame he had to play mostly for teams I despise.conley wrote:"The_Dude Posted:
