I think his issue isnt w/ whether or not its soul, but rather the part about comparing him to Al Green. That doesnt really fit because Al had such a smooooth voice...Cee-Lo's voice is far to gritty for that to be a good comparison...maybe Otis Retting perhaps...but yeah Al is smooth as hell too smooth to be compared to Cee-Lo Green.

Overall: Ive said it before and Ill say it again, it pains me to see some of Hip-Hop's dopest emcees decided that singing is the way to go...w/ Cee-Lo Im not sure if Id be comfortable calling him a sellout or anything, but like I said as an emcee this is just like a loss for the community in a sense...itd be like your favorite hard rock band going folk...I mean there's nothing wrong w/ either genre, but when cats start flip-floping like that under the guise of "artistic growth"...it just stings. And furthermore when hip-hop artists say that sort of thing its even worse because it perpetuates the sterotype that hip-hop is a lower form of music and to "grow" in it you have to abondon it. bullsh*t.

Rant over.

I just don't understand why you guys are puttin' the man down for singin', he has a great voice. I bet the dude has been in a choir or two in his life. I don't think this is such a big deal, his solo albums were just the stepping stones to this album. Its no surprise the guy wanted to sing. I don't see why you guys are so shocked and appalled.

Im sorry Zach...there's a thread just like this going on over at FWHH, and its hard for me to remember what Ive posted in either one...but yeah...

Shocked? Not at all, Appalled?...not really either...I mean since first hearing Cee-Lo on OutKast's "Git Up Git Out" off their first album, you could tell dude was heavily influenced by soul...he's always had a sing-songy quality to his flow...peep Cee-Lo's verse from"They Dont Dance No Mo'" from Goodie Mob's Still Standing for any no believers...so him branching off into sing comes as no surprise really especially after hearing his solo records ("Closet Freak" is my jam by the way)...however the reason him doing this is disturbing is because of what I said in my last post...dude is one of the BEST emcees in the South...period...Hip-Hop needs emcees like him...Hip-Hop NEEDS Cee-Lo Green the emcee...Hip-Hop NEEDS Andre 3000 the emcee...Hip-Hop NEEDS Lauryn Hill (L-Boogie) the emcee!

As I sit and watch so much of whats being pushed out there in the mainstream as hip-hop its disturbing...not because whats out their ISNT hip-hop, because it most certainly is, but because hip-hop is SO MUCH MORE as well...and look at the three emcees Ive mentioned who are now damn near strictly R&B/Soul artists...all 3 of them were in the mainstream at one point...they need to keep carrying the torches...and them abondoning hip-hop to sing goes right back to the stereotype thing I mentioned before...

Hope that make sense...Sorry for the speech...
