I'm at a loss on how to describe these guys, but I saw them in Nashville last September, with no idea who they were, and it was like they took a three-wood to my jaw. I picked up my teeth (the ones I could find) and was absolutely blown away. They're a bit like The Clash playing old Johnny Cash songs off the back of a pickup truck that's running 90MPH down a dirt road with no driver.
The Avetts have feature articles in the new PASTE and NO DEPRESSION, just headlined MerleFest, and are playing Ft Wayne on their way to Bonnaroo.
You can hear the Avetts at their MySpace site, and I think Doubleshot can chime in with some more links:

Anyway, this is the first show of Downtown Improvement's UBDT (UpBeat DownTown) summer music series. The first four shows are the "Wayne Calhoun Troubadour Series" and three of them are focusing on more roots oriented acts. I'm not sure about the YLNI thing. Wayne Calhoun is a legendary Fort Wayne-based troubadour that those two streets are named after, so DID is resurrecting his name to sponsor these shows.
The series will continue throughout the summer in different locations with 4 or 5 week stints in each. For this series, they'll be blocking off Wayne and/or Calhoun for the night.
Legendary Trainhoppers open.
Here's the poster.
