~Sanctuary~ from the album entitled ~Birds of Fire~ featuring guitarist
John McLaughlin and The Mahavishnu Orchestra, is a moody careening melody
placed against a terse series of open-voiced and sometimes ambiguous arpeggios .
My arpeggiated Tabs here below include both pure crosspicking (alternate strokes)
K\/k for the very religious, and a Pick and Roll K\/k_r)a)m) version.
The CODA piano parts are useful for learning the concert pitch of the chords
played by the guitar and the 'jpg' files here , reproduced from "John
McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra" a scores book, indicate the guitar
plays them during the keyboard solo . So, I will include them in Tab for total
appreciation of the music. The ostinato 'E' bass note makes me think that
the general Opening mode is E Superlocrian , from the seventh mode of F Real
Melodic minor. The upper corner notes on 'Sanctuary' Page 91* give a suggestion
as to a possible harmonic starting point for solos.
