What type of music is really starting to emerge these days

im gonna have to go with the "emerging" genre being something along the lines of screamo, but today there are so many bands and they all wanna be individual so they come up with a new term for their own "sound" so in my words i would say its somewhere in the gray area between hardcore metalcore and screamo, its deffinately the harder stuff. but dont mistake me for what is popular. as we should all know that the most popular things out there that you will see in stores and in the hands of the general population is rap and emo (a single tear cascades down all hardcorians cheeks *sniff*)

i think alot of the cheap mainstream rap (although i hate to admit it) is emerging. Now dont get me wrong, i dont mind some rap...but its the fake rap that takes no talent that pisses me off, every time i turn on the tv there is an ass being shaken at my face.

it's not really big, or anything, but you should listen to some acid-jazz. it is pretty much kind of a merger between trip-hop and jazz, usually w/o vocals.bassjones wrote:One hopes jazz makes a comeback - not smooth jazz, nor even fusion, but real, 1965 in the village, Miles, Trane jazz... Somehow I doubt it, since I think people now want fast-food music, but one can wish can't one?
one really good group to checkout = red snaper...it's not 'b*tch's brew' or anything, but it's still good

I actually enjoy some acid-jazz. I like some of it a lot. I was watching "Austin City Limits" the other night and really dug the second band a lot. Can't remember the name, though. Kind of a fusion between Hip-Hop, Latin, Funk, Jazz and rock. Ozomati????? Does that sound right? Anyway, I liked them a lot. I also dug Polyphonic Spree, although it was a little too acid trip, hippie dippie, happy for what I usually like, but pretty interesting nonetheless.

Ozomatli rules face! What you described definitely matches their sound. They've also been doing the North African thing too these last few years. And on top of it all, they seem to be getting better over the years.

i've always thought ozomatli was really hit or miss. some of their stuff is mind-blowing and then some of their other stuff is just really disappointingBjart Sod wrote:Ozomatli rules face! You say tomato and i say tomato.I think in all genres the weak and cheesy stuff that most people hear is making the real players step out of the crowd. Anything new is a breath of fresh air, even tho its all been done so to speak.Things go in circles. Wait for the Raindance shite to come back youll see!
I thought the same thing too. That's why I'm really impressed that Street Signs was so solid, in my opinion. I think we may still listen to these guys in 5, 10, 15 years if nothing tragic happens in the meantime.Mark [ari.ari.] wrote:i've always thought ozomatli was really hit or miss. some of their stuff is mind-blowing and then some of their other stuff is just really disappointing

I got their album but I have yet to give it a second listen...mostly I remember it being phenomenally boring except for Hold Me Now, which of course was the song that I heard that lured me into buying it =|bassjones wrote: I also dug Polyphonic Spree, although it was a little too acid trip, hippie dippie, happy for what I usually like, but pretty interesting nonetheless.
Such a cool idea, and a neat sound, but the songs just seemed to me to fall flat on their faces.
you guys should check out Amon Tobin. i was in this poster shop in Philly and his album Bricolage (spelling?) was on the PA. it blew my flippin mindMark [ari.ari.] wrote:it's not really big, or anything, but you should listen to some acid-jazz. it is pretty much kind of a merger between trip-hop and jazz, usually w/o vocals.bassjones wrote:One hopes jazz makes a comeback - not smooth jazz, nor even fusion, but real, 1965 in the village, Miles, Trane jazz... psycho crazy metal that sucks bigtime is pretty popular. no meoldy. guitars so overdistorted you cant make anything out. but at least the vocals are good, oh no wait they just scream and grunt. i hate that crap. maybe the rise of this blatant exhibition of their lack of creativity is related to the rise of meth use in ne indiana, which destroys creativity. unsurprisingly a lot of metalheads are also meth heads
