drummers: what kind of set/setup do you use

ok heres the q? what kind of brand do you use and what setup do u use?

When I play out I use a Tama set b/c it gets a nice big rock sound. Plus since its not real wood they're resilient as hell to wear and tear. I have a Yamaha beech custom in my basement that never leaves b/c it doesn't have shells. Its just the stained wood and can get dinged up easy. When I play out with jazz musicians or when I play at a coffee shop with CBN I will use my pearl export set b/c it has a quieter tone and is better suited for those kinds of situations. When I play with CBN I use 2 crashes and a ride cymbal wise. (all Zildjian, Avedis thin crash, Dark crash, medium ride, new beat hi hats) I think DW is overrated. They look really nice I admit, but that's pretty much what you're paying for. You can make any other half way decent brand sound just as good if you know how to tune your drums.

I use a 4 piece dw kit,w/ Zildjian cymbals Thin crash,Projection crash, Medium ride,new beat hats. I personally love the tone I get from my dw's they hold tune longer and better and they project really well. My Tama kit was nice, but every penny I spent on the dw was well worth it.

I personally have a Tama Starclassic that is indigo blue. i bought it as a 5 piece but now i only use 4. I have 14 x 5 snare 10 x 8 tom, 14 x 11 tom, and a 22x 18 bass. all tama hardware. iron cobra double with the kevlar strap drive. 14" quickbeat high hats, 16" z custom crash, 18" z custom crash, 20"sabian ride, 9.5" zilbel, 19" sabian paragon china, i aso use aquarian cymbal springs. snare head is a remo weather king and the toms are remos clear pinstripe bassdrum is an evans EMAD.

my tama drums are real wood. and they have great power and awesome tone. i would take tama over dw anyday. all the dw sets i have played on sound very attacky and papery to me not enough tone.

Sweet. I have Starclassic Performers indigo blue. I have the birch wood kit. I think they're badass mayself. I haven't played on alot of other drums, but I'm not dissapointed with the way my drums sound and play. So I'm a Tama man at the moment. 5 piece kit, 22x18 bass, 10x12, 12x 14, 14x16 toms. Got a tama maple piccolo 14x4 snare for that snap!!! We play ska and it just fits that style of music we play. Great snare. I'm looking to gettin a cobra double pedal sometime soon. I've never been a double pedal drummer. I'm good all the way around the kit, atleast in my head, but I've never messed with the double, and I so wanna kill some double beats!!!

a red gretsch blackhawk 5 piece with all zildjian cymbals: 13" hi-hat, 10" splash 16" crash 18" china 20" ride and some times an 18" crash. i spent a year savin up and i finally got some zildjian titanium cymbals, thats what my splash crash and ride are. and after savin up all summer i just got a tama cobra double. its insane, i need to work on my feet tho, i feel unworthy. any tips on how to improve my feet?

The best advice I can give is that unlke your hands, for your feet, you don't need to be at your kit to develop the muscles and coordination in your feet. Just do double kick patterns for any music you happen to be listening to by tapping your feet on the floor. heck, you probably do that already, and it counts as practice. Now, on single kick work, I lift my whole leg, but on double kicks, I find it faster to use just my feet.

I used to despair that I could not rattle off the fast 16th note double kick rattles consistently a la Portnoy, but really, that is not very musical or interesting. Try working more on quick little triplet patterns and integrating both kicks into fill patterns. That's the fun part of double kick drumming, I think.

by no means am i super awesome with my feet but im alright.
i have found that playing live without mics to have your double bass be heard you have to play heel up and pound the pedals. i personaly play a mix of heel up and down but hey whatever worsk for you.

what i did to get better was wherever i went i would sit and play beats and grooves with just my feet and when i found something i couldnt do i would work on that. then apply it to your kit. tips on getting faster...dont worry so much about speed focus on accuracy when you build your chops you can just gradually go fatser and it wont some like garbage.

Yeah I agree. With my setup though your hi hat is free. This is great if you do alot of hi hat work. I use the V-Club bass drum triggers instead of bass drums. I keep mine side by side and reversed from each other (see above) so i keep my right foot cocked abit diagonally and I play heel to toe. This allows my left foot to be able to devote all of its time to the hi hat.

yes if you used four pedals like that you could play like the guy who holds the record for most beats in a minute. he plays like you do with both feet and is sooo quick. i can do it but i just prefer to play my way haha

oh hey you still interested in that gear? i havent been able to give you a call bc ive been soo busy but im just curious.
