I don't think it's any of those. Cross genre songs seem to be emerging more and more. And they pull audiences who like the roots of each of the combined styles. It's interesting because I think it's made people less closed minded about music. It's nurtured an acceptance for more than one genre which has made people more apt to appreciate music in general rather than just one style.
"If there's a child on the south side of Chicago who can't read, that matters to me, even if it's not my child. If there's a senior citizen somewhere who can't pay for her prescription and has to choose between medicine and the rent, that makes my life poorer, even if it's not my grandmother. If there's an Arab American family being rounded up without benefit of an attorney or due process, that threatens my civil liberties."

Good gravy, are we post-hardcore already?
I'm going to agree with Bassmart over here and say that combinations of genres are starting to emerge, and also a big emphasis on heavy music. However, it's my opinion that the new "heavy" music is really missing the point, missing what being heavy is really all about. Today we get loud, super-compressed guitars and blocky, chunky, riff-oriented playing that never really strays very far outside the box. As the backlash, people are trying to start bands with an over-emphasis on creativity, trying to create "a whole new sound" "unlike anything ever done before", etc, etc. What these bands are missing is that 9 out of 10 times, they're still just picking up the same old rock and roll guitars and drums.
Yeah, I can turn anything into a rant.

it's like a fuze of hardcore and indie rock, but now that term gets applied to just regular metalcore bands that want to make themselves sound special and artsy

One hopes jazz makes a comeback - not smooth jazz, nor even fusion, but real, 1965 in the village, Miles, Trane jazz... Somehow I doubt it, since I think people now want fast-food music, but one can wish can't one?

Taking Back Sunday has emerged huge and they are one of those Cross-Genre bands that BasSmart was talkin about, they mix punk and emo and kids crave them like its an addiction now a days. Same with almost all Screamo bands, those are cross-genre bands and i would go as far as to say that "Screamo" is the in thing right now for sure so id say thats prolly the one that is emerging and has emerged the most.

but i dont believe that "screamo" is really emerging yet because it is mostly underground and from what i can tell only warped tour is signing screamo (i think)Mr.Teenidol wrote:Taking Back Sunday has emerged huge and they are one of those Cross-Genre bands that BasSmart was talkin about, they mix punk and emo and kids crave them like its an addiction now a days. Define "emerging", because all of the above genres (sadly, including jazz)are essentially underground. None of them is really emerging in a big way, the way that grunge did in the early 90's.
