Courtney Love Has A Point?! ...Maybe...

Post by G Fresh »

This is kind of a long read, but it's an interesting one. I never thought I'd be agreeing with Courtney Love on anything, but she makes quite a few good points in this article. I won't vouch for the accuracy of everything she's saying here, but I've heard stories from other artists confirming some of this and it really makes me wonder if I want to try to break into "the biz" as it stands now...actually, as it stood then, I just checked and realized that this article is 7 years old. That's what I get for "Stumbling". Hmmmm...perhaps I should rethink posting this. Ah, what the hell, it's pretty much as true now as it was then.

Wow that was a long read, but very insightful and yes I am now questioning my own view on "making it".

She was right on with that...if you didn't know all of that you need to run from the business right now...:)

You will ultimately get screwed...unless you are a mega band...and there are HOW many of them from time to time??

That needs to be stickied! That needs to be required reading for any young musician! 100% on the money. Start your own label or sign to an indie (I might know of one that's getting ready to put out its first release soon), but F the record labels. Unless you're more interested in fame than you are in making a living.

I saw this piece a few years ago, and its pretty startling that;

A. That Courtney Love has something to offer the world.

B. That the rock finance scene is such a slam-dunk against the players.

Lets hear it for new techniques in distribution and marketing, including places like FWM, (although I'm just trying to get more notes for blackjack.)
