TV on the Radio

Post by Massage...Bored »

Um, I don't think I like this new album very much. I will listen to it again, but so far, meh. Not worth the 4 1/2 star review Rolling Stone gave unto it. Great title though, "Return to Cookie Mountain". I'll give a second listen review when I'm through it again.

After a few listens, I can say I definitely adore this album and am planning to see TV on the Radio live this October. I only grew to love their Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes after many, many listens, so I could see why their music would not instantly appeal to everyone (besides super-cool pretentious hipsters like me :D ). All I can say is give it a good try.

I think the new album is definitely worth the 4.5 stars from RS, the 9.1 score from Pitchfork, the collective 87% score from Metacritic...but if you like to ignore music critics and trust your own instincts, these scores really don't matter.

Okay, after a second listen, I enjoy it. Mostly because David Bowie's on a couple tracks and that's usually a good sign for me liking something. Not worth 4 1/2 stars, not close, but still interesting.

I bought the import of this album a few weeks ago because I was anxious to see what all the hype was about ... I liked BLOOD THIRSTY BABES ... but this new one, COOKIES, I'm not into it. If ya really want a good/new indie rock album, go get Yo La Tengo's new album. Or even the new Rapture album.

As for TVotR, just because a band looks cool and sounds a little different, doesn't mean they're good - but nice try, Rolling Stone. Frankly, that sh*t sucked ... sorry, I get way too worked up about this stuff.

I am not sure TVotR how looks more cool than the average band, unless it's cool not to try too hard and to dress like a normal human being. If their promos, etc. look more cool than the average band, I assume its b/c of their arty backgrounds. Why must they be so unassumingly cool....now everyone will disparage them and recommend bands that never were ever ever hyped themselves during their careers, dang. 66.66% of all my FWM posts have been about TVotR now....maybe I am biased.

As for Yo La Tengo, just because a band's new album title is cool and they have been around for 20 years doesn't mean I should buy their album. I can only take so many songs over 8 minutes.

So, I'll plop my foot firmly in my mouth and say that I now highly enjoy this group. i listened to "Return" about 10 times and it got to me. Its great studying music, as well. I just picked up the first album last night and I haven't yet wrapped my mind around it fully.
