this is just my opinion but to me weezer has always = rivers cuomo + matt sharp.

after matt left the band i thought that it just became the "rivers solo act" and the records were as spotty and uninteresting as frank black's solo records.

i feel they basically lost the person in the band that had the balls to say "that sucks" and it allowed mr cuomo to indulge his every whim and desire - no matter how awful.

i can be totally happy having pinkerton, the blue album and fond memories.

in my opinion pinkerton was their best. it's raunchy, thrown-together sound and extremely personal lyrics have managed to stick with me for 10 years, and still have the ability to give me goosebumps. i love the blue album too, but i always go back to pinkerton. as far as the green album and maladroit go, they were fun to listen to, but just didn't evoke the same kind of feelings as the first 2 albums, and make believe, i hate to admit as a member of the rebel weezer alliance, has yet to enter my cd player. for some reason i just can't bring myself to give it a try, i think i'm just scared it will ruin my opinion of the band.

to charlesloco: i agree with you about matt and rivers. after matt left it seems like the songs lost the clever goofiness that i had grown to love. i think rivers takes himself to serious and matt brought not only the ability to say that sucks, but also the ability to remind rivers that it's supposed to be fun.

and last but not least, i'm really distraught over the idea of weezer not being there anymore. even though i have'nt really gotten into their sound as of late, they are the same band that helped shape my life, comforted me when i'd been dumped, gave me confidence when i was depressed, and provided me the ability to be a teenager again with the turn of a dial.
