Tom Russell
I missed it. What song did he sing? Pugilist 59? That song sounds like a perfect blend of of Springsteen's "This Is Your Honetwon" and Peter Case's "Entella Hotel"---no kidding. Weird.

Kind of cool to see and old guy rockin'

A new one called "Stealing Electricity" -- it starts with a verse about a Mexican man roasting on a power line, trying to steal electricty for his family, then uses that as a metaphor for a hot love affair. The chorus is basically him going "two hearts go: Dat dat dat dat de dat..." really fast, and it sounds like a power line snapping on a dry highway. Tremendous.

Oh. Haven't heard that one.

You familiar with Peter Case? Man With the Blue Fragmented, Post-Modern Neo-Classical Guitar? Good album.

I just started finding out more about Peter Case w/ that awesome tribute album that came out last year, with too many awesome folk-rock icons on it to mention. I dig what I've heard so far, but haven't heard that particular record.

I think he reformed the Plimsouls too, right?

I have heard this, but not sure what's happening.

Check his site.

MWBFPMNCG is his best IMHO. Sings Like Hell is good as well. Full Service No Waiting was his attempt at slick, pop folk for Geffen---kind of sucked.

Anyway, GL -- I know you type with a smile on your face, as do I -- and my b-day was Feb 23 but I always accept late gifts, I am a gentleman after all. How about a trade? I know the best band you have never heard of, I promise.
msk....matt superman kelley? i thought so.

as for this thread...yes, very cool to see so many responses with dbt as the topic.

Not to add life to an old post but I was out buying some new music tonight and I had wanted to check out drive by truckers for awhile. I have almost picked up the new album a couple times but forgot or found something else I wanted. So, to make a long story short, tonight they were on my mind again and I remembered some on here really talked up dirty south. So...I bought it.

Thanks guys. I really really like it.

BTW, if you have any more recommendations in the same style I'm open. PM me with them. I may already have some of them but more can't be all that bad.
