In my entire driving career I have been pulled over 9 times.

All for "speeding"... once without a seat belt, once with an open beer from a 12 pack. The beer I set on the floor of the car and it tipped over and spilled the rest.

Two tickets, 5 warnings and 2 just let go. One of the warnings was the beer incident.

He asked how much I had to drink and I said a half a beer. He saw the empty on the floor and 11 pack in the back. He took my beer and wrote me a warning. Granted this was years ago, but still....

I don't know what you guys are doing wrong, but respect for the badge and a polite courteous tone goes a long way.

I can only guess by the tone of some of your posts that perhaps you may not have the capabilities to do this.

I am with you Ollie. I have been pulled over 9 or 10 times as well in my driving career as well. ( I am also 23) They have all been for speeding or running red lights. Just so happens I was drunk 2 of the times I was caught speeding. Any way, every time I have had an encounter with the police and I was doing something wrong I either got a warning, ticket or I went to jail, and I was guilty as hell every time. But at the same time I was always respectful not matter what the situation and hell it even got my handcuffs loosened a little bit once.

The police are just doing their jobs. Sorry, but their job consists of upholding the law and if you are breaking it, no matter how petty it seems, you still have to be held responsible for your actions.

If you have not done anything wrong, and you are respectful to the officers you should not have any problems. Sure there are some d*cks out there, but unfortunately sometimes you have to swallow your pride and let them flex nuts, because the second they feel you are trying to flex back they will make your life miserable because they can.

Holy crap, I'm 24 and have never been pulled over, and I speed my ass off. Of course I've just messed myself and will get a ticket soon.

Yeah, I look at traffic tickets as the fee I have to pay to drive as fast as I want.

3 years ago I had a cop pull me over at 5:30AM on my way to work for speeding about 20 over. He got out of the car stormed up to the window and told me I had the worst forking driving record he had ever seen in his life and told me to give him one good reason why he shouldn't pull my ass out of the car and take me to jail. I can't remember what I said, but I totally kissed ass and he let me go with a verbal warning. The son of a b*tch followed me to work everyday for 3 months, until I moved and starting driving a different route. I got really lucky that day because if I would have said something smart ass he would have ruined my life.

I can relate to this topic from many different angles.

I have had my share of police encounters. Sometimes they started out a bit brusk and I calmed them down and got off with a warning. Sometimes I got the ticket but to be honest, I was guilty of it anyways.

I also have had some friends in my life who became cops. I have seen their attitude change over the years. I sorta get it though. I'm not saying it's right but...

Have you ever worked a customer service job and after awhile you get so sick of dealing with stupid, and I mean STUPID butthead CUSTOMERS, that you almost immediately feel jaded with every one of them.

Now imagine your an officer who has to deal with stupid butthead criminals on a daily basis. Imagine the excuses you hear, the arguments thrown at you and the hostile environment. I'm sure you would get jaded too. That doesn't mean I condone any sort of harrasment. I'm just saying I can be a bit emphatic why they may not immediately be all smiling roses when they pull me over.

But as was mentioned by a few of you before, I have gotten out of most of my infractions by just being respectful. I once ran a red light and the cop was being a d*ck. When he came back to the car he still had a dickish tone and said "Your attitude got you a break tonight!". Yeah, he was still acting dickish, but he also still let me go with a verbal warning.

Imagine spending 90% of your time dealing with the worst 10% of society. Now, why are they a little edgy sometimes?

Dumbest ticket I ever got. Just married, driving a red camaro SS, speed limit in Michigan had just gone up from 65 to 70 on the highway. I got pulled over for 73 in a 70. Me, "When was the last time you had your radar calibrated?" Officer, "The last time I pulled a smartass like you over." I ended up fighting the ticket and I got it erased from my record but had to pay the fine. Ever since then, nothing but politeness. I probably would have gotten a warning had I been nice. Instead I paid a fine and court costs to get it wiped from my record.

I was in high school and we were all leaving a basketball game in Butler. We were being young and stupid...there were 2 cars...I was driving one with a buddy in the passenger seat and one of the girls that went with us was driving her car with one of her friends in her passenger seat. We were being idiots...passing each other on SR 6. I'd pass her. She'd pass me. Well, this cop was following us and he eventually passed us both, pulled her over and got out of his car and used his flashlight to have me pull over.

I got 3 tickets...1 for 75 in a 55, 1 for crossing the center line, 1 for failure to use a turn signal (2 of the 3 are wreckless driving charges) and roughtly $400 in fines. Had to take defensive driving (with Dynamite Mike Butcher who was hilarious) @ Dekalb High School. It was quite the treat.

Anyways...I totally deserved the tickets. I didn't fight a thing. I paid my fines and went on my merry way.

My only problem...

He gave the girl a verbal warning and let her and her friend go. She was just as guilty as I (she was speeding, didn't use her signals, crossed the center line) and yet for some reason, I'm the only one who had to pay. That was nice of him.

But anyways...I do agree with Seves and Ollie. I've gotten my fair share of tickets and "the Man" has screwed me over a few times, too. But in the end...just be nice. If you're guilty, you deserve what you get. Bottom line.

No one is forcing them to take the job. I've heard more stories of cops pulling people over for the same dumb sh^t you were pulled over for (going 3 over the speed limit). It seems like many of them are wasting everyone's time.

The list of skills are very basic.

The minimum education requirement is a GED? Sorry, but for this job, I think a more extensive study of the law should be required. I know it's preferred, but how many really do it? Anybody can be a cop, they have too much power for requiring so little of applicants.

You're not getting hired with a GED. Most of their officers have at least an Associate's Degree and many have a Bachelor's.

pulled over yesterday in northrop parking lot!

on coldwater right nect to northrop before cook is the no u-turn sign. The same place me and probably 20 other cars do a u-turn every day which saves us atleast 10 minutes getting to school. new cop at northrop was j/ sitting there waiting for people to do it. he gave me a warning and then i tried to explain to him that many cars do that every day. I swear turning left onto cook is ridiculous. the light will stay green for maybe 10 cars and then not be green again for another 5 minutes. sucks when there are 50-60 cars waiting.
