I'm just wondering if we are really big enough to have a downtown stadium.

We're not big enough for the stadium we have now.

That is what I thought as well! I'm also wondering why this is the big plan for the downtown area. I'm sure they could think of something else.

All you have to do is look at any other big city, you need bars, shopping, gambling and food. Give people a reason to go down town and they will. If you put a baseball stadium in you will get the same number of people in it that were at the old one, which is not enough.

which will be used for 5 1/2 months out of the year.

Some sorta of multi purpose facility
ie: swimming, diving, hockey, other sporting events,... would seem more
practical & financially feasible.

So what is the average life of a baseball stadium??
Surely not thirteen years? Do we even sell out games anymore/ever?

Do we something major to draw visitors downtown?
Oh yeah, but the new baseball stadium idea misses the mark a little.

i went to a few wizard games this season and thought the stadium was fine. The problem was more on how it was run. I wish they would do more things like "____ night" first 500 fans get a free _____. You never hear about stuff like that. What they do do, is between every inning, put 4 to 10 random kids on the field and play a game that is... exciting? no, not so much. They need something else. Sure a game is fun to go see for a really really young kid, but to someone older, theres just not much besides what you payed for; baseball. Its not the baseball that will bring people back, its the environment, the people, and the service.

I dont believe our downtown is 'full' wnough for a stadium. The people who are running this are thinking backwards. They think "a stadium will bring people downtown, while downtown they will help the businesses and economy grow by going otehr places"... I think the opposite. "people will go downtown to go to restaraunts, SPORTS FACILITYs (as mentioned above), parks, events, and while there they may want to enjoy a nice baseball game"

Fort wayne needs to find a way to get people downtown. We need to book events, have more concerts under the event tent, DO things that will bring a variety of ppl.

btw, what would they do with the old stadium?

I don't get the comparison to Dayton and/or Grand Rapids. I believe both of those cities' minor league teams are affiliates of a very nearby major league team (Tigers/and Reds respectively). Also, while the city proper is about the same size, both Dayton and GR have much larger towns nearby than Garrett or Leo.

I'm not sold on gambling, but a multi-use sports facility makes allot more sense to me than a baseball only stadium.

I am not saying gambling is somthing we need, nor would it even happen. Just an example of what some larger cities have as examples.

Downtown just needs cleaned up. It isn't that great looking and there isn't much to do.

Another thing that is creating problems is all the cops they have circling the bars down there at night. Who wants to drive down there if they are going to get busted.

I for one am not scared of walking downtown fort wayne late at night because of riff raff, because there isnt really any. I am like mentioned above just worried about our over abundance of fwpd.

Less cops and more pubic transportation.
