Regarding Stephen Jackson

Post by bassjones »

A. I have no problem, whatsoever with any responsible person owning, carrying, and even using if necessary, a handgun. Considering these guys' fame and wealth, they probably have more reason than most to be concerned enough for their safety to feel it necessary to carry a concealed weapon. I own guns, have carried a gun in the past, probably will in the future, and several of my friends, whom I respect greatly, own and carry them responsibly.

B. Any responsible gun owner/carrier knows that you don't pull it out unless you are ready and willing to use it, and it is completely necessary to protect you or others. Also, when you shoot at a person, you shoot large body mass until the threat is eliminated.

C. Any responsible gun owner/carrier also knows that you ONLY fire your gun at someone or something you actually want to hit and stop from harming you. That is called self-defense or defense of others.

D. This was NOT self-defense or defense of others. Had he shot at the car/driver as he was attempting to run him and his friends down, that would have been self-defense or defense of others. Firing into the air as the car/driver sped away was wreckless and could have easily resulted in the serious injury and/or death of any number of innocent bystanders.

Therefore, Stephen Jackson deserves to be charged with Wreckless Endangerment at a minimum and possibly attempted murder, and he deserves to spend some time in prison if he's found guilty. The key to this whole case is RESPONSIBILITY. If you are a responsible person you may exercise your right to carry a firearm. If you are a hot-headed, ego-maniacal, loose cannon you should not be allowed to be near a firearm.

someone could of died by him firing it in the air?

and where did you find the information where it said the people were already driving off when he shot it in the air? Your saying, "hey buddy you arent responsile because you didnt shoot the people"...

i dont know if im less of a man, but i would deffinately want to fire a warning shot before possible killing someone.

Those bullets have to come down somewhere...unless they go far enough to reach out of the pull of Earth's gravitational field. I don't really know the facts about that.

On Mythbusters the bullets did come down. Actually, if you fire a gun straight up into the air the bullet won't come down with enough force to kill anyone (but possibly leave a nasty bruise if it hits you on the head). However, if your arm isn't straight up and the gun is fired at an angle, say 5 degrees from vertical, the bullet can maintain its trajectory and come down with lethal force. Unless you fire the bullet absolutely straight up (something that's near impossible to do unless you're standing perfectly still and concentating on it) the bullet can return to earth and kill someone.

God I love Mythbusters.

Qwetty, You obviously have never fired a gun or been through a gun safety course. You don't fire warning shots except in Hollywood movies. EVERY shot you take is going to hit something before it stops. A random warning shot into the air may very well hit an innocent bystander. Any responsible gun owner knows you keep your gun in its holster unless and until you feel the need to use it to defend yourself and then you shoot to kill. <-emphasis on the period.

All the news reports said he fired 5 shots in the air AFTER he was hit by the car as it was leaving the scene. That's not self-defense, that's Reckless Endangerement. The prosecutor obviously agrees with me because that's what he charged him with today.

Reports also indicate that Jackson assaulted a physically handicapped man inside the strip club, which may have started or at the very least escalated the disturbance to the point that firearms were eventually pulled. A real class act   I wonder whose pot it was too...

Um. . .

The velocity of escape from the earth at its surface is about 7 mi (11.3 km) per sec, or 25,000 mi per hr; from the moon's surface it is 1.5 mi (2.4 km) per sec; and for a body at the earth's distance from the sun to escape from the sun's gravitation, the velocity must be 26 mi (41 km) per sec.
There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those who understand binary. . .

. . .and those who don't.

My dad was good friends with a guy who took a bullet to the shoulder. Some other hillbilly (this happened in Kentucky...surprise.) fired his gun in the air while they were all drinking and camping and it came down and nailed him.

What goes up must come down.
