Well...where to begin...
Nowadays around FWM.com, I'm sort of the Poopsmith, where I used to be the King of Town.
No seriously, that's the best anology I can come up with.
My involvement with the Fort Wayne Music Scene started shortly after I turned 21 and could start going to see all the cool bands at C-Street and Legends and such. I "grew up" on Black Tooth Grin, Abraham, and Strut Train. I loved seeing Mike Conley, Matt Sturm, The Shelley Dixon Band and Adam Atherton.
For a while, I thought the best way I could help the scene was to volunteer for FWM, so for a while, I did the home page, concert and CD reviews and posted all the time. I put a lot of time, hours and effort into FWM.
Around the time I started doing my MBA at Indiana Wesleyan, I took a leave of absence from FWM. And rapidly my involvement in the scene disappated.
Abraham begat Jettingham, Black Tooh Grin begat Sfumato, and Strut Train begat Dave P's Love Jams (or whatever the heck he called it, sort of).
And my interest in the scene faded too. Maybe it's just me getting older...maybe it's just the late late shows...maybe it was other things that are important to me (my fraternity [I'm a proud member of Sigma Phi Epsilon], and hockey [I'm a HUGE Komets fan]) took the place of music/FWM.
I'm still a huge music fan and am in the process of trying to learn guitar...it hasn't got to the point where that is crucially important to me though, so it always winds up taking the back burner. I guess when I eventually relax and put all this other stuff behind I'll get back to it...
So much more to say, but I'm tired...so...um...later.

[b]Okay, think of what little patience I have as, oh, I don't know, your virginity. You always thought it would be there, until that night Junior Year when you were feeling a little down about yourself and your pal Kevin, who just wanted to be friends, well, he dropped by and he brought a copy of About Last Night and a four-pack of Bartels & James and woo hoo hoo, it was gone forever - just like my patience is now.

Now Matt, you and I both know that's not the case...it's called prioritization.
My priorities:
1 - My Fraternity
2 - My Work
3 - Myself
4 - Hockey
x - Local Music Scene
Sorry, kids, but that's just the facts...I support and appreciate the scene, I just never seem to be able to get out to shows.
I was ticked as hell that I missed Adam last week, but I was in Vegas...

Jock is one word that will never, ever, ever be used to describe me...just for the record.
I mighta been a bit buzzed when I wrote that priority list, but a few comments.
True, my #1 priority should be myself...and in ways it is. It's not like I'm totally ignorant of what I need or want--it just happens that mostly, everything I do is related to the fraternity (I'm a SigEp).
I guess what I really mean by my priorities is the amount of time I spend on stuff..coupled with what is important...
I spend a lot of time doing stuff for my fraternity From the website, to alumni communications...plus I am our Secretary so I have to handle all of our minutes, databases, and historical stuff. Hence, most of my freetime is keeping that all together. Plus, 99% of my friends are SigEps, so I spend a lot of my time hanging out and doing stuff with them.
As for work...well, my dad gave me a hell of a work ethic, so I'm always putting my all into it...and 40-hours a week, it is my life...in the off hours, and in my free time, though...work doesn't even exist.
As for putting time into myself...well, I should do more of that. I want to learn guitar, I want to lose weight--but these things always seem secondary to getting other stuff done.
Hockey, and more specifically the Komets are extremely important to me as well.
The music scene in Fort Wayne is important to me, it's just not as important as it used to be. As I was saying, I used to be heavily involved, but then my priorities shifted.
If I have one complaint it's this: if a show is Sunday - Thursday, I simply can not go. Usually they don't start until about 10:30 and with having a career where I have to get up at 5:30am at the latest...well, going out 'catching a band, getting to sleep and being 100% at work the next day simply isn't going to happen.
During hockey season, Friday's and Saturday's are usually busy with a game. And then there's other nights where I just don't "feel" like going out.
Jericho's gonna give me sh_t for this, but it's all true...
As for why I put so much stock in my fraternity...well, it's a long story so I'll be really brief. It's the singular thing in my life that helped me become the person I am today. Without it, I would have never stayed in Indiana, would have never changed, and my life would be completely different.
It was such a profound experience that I am compelled to do everything I can to make sure that: 1 - it continues to exist and 2 - that other young men who become a part of it have as profound an experience as I did.
The best way I can put it to y'all is that I am making installment payments on a loan that I can never fully repay.
