poetry jam

this is a poetry jam i came up with a while back...the feel of it would be better understood if you could hear it, but written word will have to do..

You always say what they want to hear
no matter how you truly feel.
You don't know why you try to hide
the real you.
It's been a habit for so long,
you do it without giving it a second thought.
Have you forgotten your own voice?
You just repeat and imitate the opinions of everyone else,
you no longer speak for yourself.
You're afraid someone will disagree
or maybe they won't see
where you're coming from.
That, and you don't want to offend anyone.
You'd rather settle for mediocrity
and the hipocracy of yourself
than say what's really on your mind.
But your soul is crying out to be heard,
don't let your words lie.
This is the time for you to finally realize
it's better to stand alone
than to be known
for something you're only pretending to be.
You have your own voice,
don't let it become lost within the noise.
You can stand up..
or stay sitting because that's what everyone else is doing.
You have a choice.
