If politicians and non-smoking advocates keep this sh*t up, we (Musicians) are not going to have anywhere to play, but basements and street corners.

Pubs find nothing but bad luck on tap

The plywood walls of the Elco Tap on East Pontiac Street are covered with broken car parts and messages written in Magic Marker.

One reads, â€œJuke Box: $5,000, Tables and chairs, $2,000, Plywood wall for Christmas, priceless.â€

First, this ban is (supposedly) about 2nd hand smoke, not smokers. While I'm philosophically opposed to this sort of thing, and I don't buy all the research, there's a part of me that hopes it passes. I don't like my expensive bass gear smelling like smoke.

I don't think it will hurt C-Street, Mid-City, Mad Anthony/Munchies, etc... at all because they offer entertainment and food. I do think it will kill off the remaining small neighborhood pubs like those in the article, and that's a shame.

Then stop making the CHOICE to play in places where they smoke. I read this as your inability to make choices that suit your life affecting my ability to make the ones I want.

If you don't want to stink like smoke, don't subject yourself to it. Don't ruin it for others who are more than capable of making their own decisions.

This isn't a personal attack at you, but this sh*t pisses me off. Just because a few asshats can't decide to go to a different establishment that sets its own rules for smoking, all establishments have to suffer. It's fascism. People refuse to take credit for their own decisions, cryass to the government about how their poor decision caused them to be subjected to second hand smoke or whatever and then the rest of us are no longer allowed to make our own decisions. I could just kick every one of these assholes in the balls.

[edit]I don't smoke. I don't really like smoke either. I know before hand that going to a bar is going to leave me smelling and feeling like an ashtray. It's MY choice, not yours, not the government's as to whether I subject and submit myself to those parameters of life. I've said this before, but I'd like to see every bar in this city go smoke-free VOLUNTARILY. I hate my gear smelling like that, but I love playing, so... I do what I have to. Once I get my custom bass built, it won't be going out to smoky clubs though.
