This article is extremely biased, of course, and the focus is too narrow.
As far as Iran goes, Jimmy Carter was the last nail in the coffin for a flawed Cold War foreign policy that favored dictators in any country as long as they were anti-communist. The CIA stepped in in Iran in the 1950's to help remove a prime minister that was just HINTED at being pro-communist.
