And here are those same quotes....not taken out of context (many of them anyways). I'm not a big fan of Hillary either, but this just seems to be a bit of a Hillary bash if you ask me. You can make anyone sound like a douche bag when you take what they say out of context, or publish quotes from "unnamed sources".
The page opens with the same text as Shawn's post. It goes on to give the same quotes, their sources, and the context in which they, if at all, were said. Granted...some of these are true, but then again, some are not.

And that's why we should all vote Obama in 08'!!!
Doesn't matter who the Dems float. If any one of these idiots the Republicans have on the platform right now gets the nomination, even Hillary will win. And frankly, I don't care anymore. I want at least one conservative up there that I could conceivably vote for.
Cut taxes even more and actually CUT spending (there's a novel idea for a conservative). Do something about illegal immigration that doesn't amount to a mass pardon for 40 million people (at least) who have crossed our borders illegally. More John Roberts and Sam Alito type nominees on the bench. Quit screwing around in Iraq. Shut down the borders there too and shoot any Syrian or Iranian that attempts to cross the border and cause more problems in Iraq.
I don't trust any of these smiling baboons to do more than one or two of those things and none of them on immigration - except Tancredo, who doesn't have a shot in hell of winning the nomination. That's who I'm giving my primary vote to though. Then I'll either vote Libertarian or other 3rd party in '08, or I'm even considering just sitting it out. Get the voter turnout down to 20% or so and maybe, just maybe we'll get some candidates people can get excited about.

Well it's actually good that Tancredo doesn't have a shot considering he's an extreme xenophobe. Check this out:bassjones wrote: I don't trust any of these smiling baboons to do more than one or two of those things and none of them on immigration - except Tancredo, who doesn't have a shot in hell of winning the nomination.
Tancredo has said that such individuals [illegal immigrants] "need to be found before it is too late. They're coming here to kill you, and you, and me, and my grandchildren".

wikipedia???? Why don't you cite the National Enquirer while you're at it.
Besides, even if the quote is accurate, he was referring to ILLEGAL immigrants, most likely middle eastern terrorists using our porus borders to enter the country.
What part of ILLEGAL don't people understand. Xenophobia is a fear of foreigners. It's not xenophobia to state that all are welcome if they go through legal channels to get here, but if you're here illegally you need to be sent back home.

A debate on the validity of Wikipedia would make another great thread.bassjones wrote:wikipedia???? Why don't you cite the National Enquirer while you're at it.
The quote seems like it could go either way, either towards latinos or muslims. I don't want to sound like an extremist (also keep in mind that I'm not a democrat, so this isn't a party thing) but I honestly think he may be a racist xenophobe. For example, he thinks bilingualism is a bad thing. He tends to use the word "alien" a lot, probably in order to dehumanize the situation. People seem to get hung up on the word "illegal". Why do people sneak across the border? Because the legal channels you speak of are long, drawn-out processes that are filled with many problems. That's why everyone is calling attention to immigration reform.
These illegals make up a big part of our economy, like it or not.
Being opposed to bilingualism doesn't make one a racist. Ask yourself this simple question. Why in a nation of immigrants is the ONLY exception to the English rule made for Spanish speaking people??? Perhaps it's bilingualism that's racist. If every other immigrant group manages to learn English, why can't those folk who come from Spanish speaking countries in Latin America?Aero wrote:A debate on the validity of Wikipedia would make another great thread.bassjones wrote:wikipedia???? Sneaking across the border is illegal. And your argument doesn't hold up. Would you allow somebody to "sneak" into your house and not call the police to have him extricated?
There are good reasons for those long, drawn-out processes being in place. Preventing the spread of disease, ensuring the health and safety of the citizens of this country, making sure we actually know who is here, making sure that foreign enemy combatants don't get in any more easily, etc...
I could end illegal immigration tomorrow and have everyone back home in a week. Pass and ENFORCE a law that prohibits any domestic spending on illegal immigrants. Make San Francisco, LA, New York and Chicago follow the law, or cut off all their federal funds. bye bye illegals.

Tell that to someone who has struggled their entire life to eat. Better yet, go without regular meals and or sanitary food and water for some time and see what kind of hurry you would be in, to get into the states.bassjones wrote:Sneaking across the border is illegal. I'm not throwing stones here, so don't take it wrong. I just see how easy we have it and can understand the desire to come here be it legally or illegally. Especially if you have a family that's daily needs aren't being met.

Then you're wasting your time complaining about it on an internet forum. Go do something.bassjones wrote:

I'm curious though...obviously a lot of these illegals fulfill a lot of jobs at a lot of places that pay them crap. What happens to these places? Who fills these jobs? What happens to the businesses? What happens to the costs of the products of these businesses? What happens to the consumer that has to pay for more than before for that product?
I'm not saying I disagree that they should not be here, I'm just wondering since you know how to fix it.

12% of the population speaks Spanish; Spanish speakers are increasing. Languages come and go (Latin). Discouraging the use of second languages is wrong and leads to an assimilation and lack of cultural identity. A similar thing happened to my ancestors who spoke Irish, but were forced to speak English or be persecuted.bassjones wrote: Being opposed to bilingualism doesn't make one a racist. The fact is, there is no official language of the U.S. Many descendants of Spanish-only speakers that come to the U.S. are usually fluent in English.
