They were paying the artist to paint the ceiling
Not quite. Michaelengo didn't want the commision but was forced into it by the pope.

Painting the Sistine Chapel caused Michaelengo to develop life-long health problems.

Just a sidenote, FYI.

Yay, you know my name! *claps*

What happened in this story should offend us all AS HUMAN BEINGS, regardless of our political/religous leanings.

You kinda' baited the opposition unneccesarily with the words 'this religious conservative.'
Yup, I definitely couldn't pass up the juicy bait... But seriously, the kitty is right. As Oliver said, you could have just said that it outrages you. Instead, you had to bring "religious conservative" into the argument. So, I brought up a counter example of religious conservatives who also censored art.

And even though "it was their church" so they apparently had the "right" to censor it, doesn't the "school" have the right to censor everything the students see, hear and read?

You're walking a dangerous line about educational freedoms with that statement.

But, oh yeah, eating the fruit of knowledge was the original sin, was it not? Apparently, the god in your bible loves his followers to remain ignorant and non-questioning...
That's a far cry from firing a teacher for taking students to an art museum and letting them see "David
Oh yeah, I have seen the Sistine Chapel and David... Along with Michaelangelo's tomb. And I feel very fortunate to have done so. Ironically, the painter that did paint the leaves was thenforth known as "the underwear painter"...

And "pisschrist" was a lame piece, but I think the artist was making a statement beyond the actual piece. Since people still talk about it, apparently his statement got through.

Hey I like Fear Factory!

Seriously though I think 'shock' was the point of Pisschrist. If the artist didn't inform the public that the liquid was urine there would have been no controversy.

I think you guys are reading wAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy too much into this thread title.

*Perhaps* Jones mearly wanted to point out the irony that he (or any/most Conservatives and Republican's) who *typically* are the type to complain about issues like this...even HE thinks this event was over the top.

What if the title was "Even THIS vegetarian is shocked by the FDA destroying tons of perfectly good spinach"

I think that Jones wanted to point out the absurdity of the events, not to spin it into some RepliCon issue that needs his political foundation dissected.

. . .or not be looking for yet another reason to light into you.

it seems like no matter what you say, or what you mean by it, your opposition wants to paint it red and call it a zebra; my point being that they want to make it into something it isn't.

oh well.
There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those who understand binary. . .

. . .and those who don't.
