The Davinci Code

Post by Morphine Child »

I felt this might be appropriate with the movie hitting this week, and I thought it would belong in here due to potential controversy. I read the book and I enjoyed it. It was actually the catholic church and their "this book is evil, and lies blah blah" that made me interested.

I thought the book was really cool. Personally, it went along with what I had established as my own beliefs awhile back (Jesus being just a man, not divine) and I felt it had a lot of good, and to some controversial historical information. The book was good overall. I ended up reading it in a few days because it drew me in with all the suspense.

Anyone else read it? I'm assuming with 40 million copies in circulation someone on here probably has. haha

I read it, and its predecessor, "Angels and Demons." Both are spectacular. I enjoyed theories that Dan Brown puts out there, but I remember that this is fiction. It's very creative fiction, for sure, and I suspect almost as well done as the bible (which I also believe to be fiction). To be able to better buy into Dan Brown's claims in this story, I would really have to read his cited works and get a feel for the research he did to come to these conclusions.

I want so much to believe in the magic of the universe and the possiblity that there have been times where the thread in the veil between fact and fantasy, real and unreal has worn thin. I don't think that there have ever been gods or prohpets or people who can suspend the pragmatic rule of the universe. . .but I do believe it's possible despite my perception of the probability.

I read it and I agree...it is fiction...and I am catholic...and I love the ideas he poses...true or not true, fact or fiction, the book is still stated to be FICTION by him and some people just need to relax...

That movie is going to blow open the box office doors Friday...and the protesting is only going to make more people run out and see it...

They bitched about him opening with his little fact sheet...well that fact sheet was in a fiction book...so it was also fiction...and he used it to do a few things...set up the story line...and cause heated debates...brilliant...

Hell..I went to a hocky game as Jesus...played it up...thank god they aren't picketing my house...I mean I did wear flip flops instead of sandals after all...

Anyone remember this one?

Smith stood in a picket line to protest his OWN movie. Not a one of the protesters had even seen it and most of them didn't even know what they were there to protest.

Why didn't they protest outside of Barnes & Noble when the book came out and everyone and his mother bought and read the thing? Because its going to be an even more successful film, does that now deserve the protests? I wanted to protest the Passion of the Christ viewers for taking their children to see it but I thought better and said, "Hey, its their fault if it messes up their kid, not my place to butt in." Why can't the churches just let people be?

I just heard that for their afterprom, Carroll High School had rented a midnight showing of the "Davinci Code" at Carmike Theatre. Four catholic students' parents complained and they cancelled the entire thing. That really sucks a d*ck for the other students. If they really cared that much about being catholic, they would have sent them to Dwenger or Luers.

What does that have to do with anything? Which schools are you talking about? Catholic schools or public schools, they all have blacks and hispanics.

Gee! Maybe the tuition thing might stop them from sending them there. I know it did with me!!

Nobody's stopping them from seeing this, just is inappropriate in a public school arena(yeah I know its a midnite showing).. it's NOT a big deal..

If you like it and want to see it.... Go (but not on my taxpayers dime)
If you want abstain,.... Do it!!

Sadly,... the general populace will probably buy
into the theory and take it for
what it isn't..... :Fact:

Was being sarcastic. Have some strong opinions about CHS. If you actually want to hear them, I'd be glad to PM you.

I believe both Luers and Dwenger have far more diversity than CHS.

Let's just say that four neices and nephews have attended and still attend. I've heard some interesting stuff---in addition to the very public news that has made it into the newspapers over the past two years.

I have not finished reading the book, yet. With all of the "controversy" over it, I spent a good amount of time recently "researching" all of the websites that have information on the "facts" that the book contains....and I gotta say that I am enthrawlled.

It is an interesting mythology that the book explores, and I definitely want to see this film. I think Ron Howard can do very little wrong to make this an exciting film. (+ Audry Tautou is gorgeous)

I think that if I had read this book with no prior knowledge of the ideas put forth in "the davinci code", then I would have taken them with a grain of salt. However, I had read and seen quite a few things before I read the book that put forth the same ideas. Dan Brown did a stellar job of explaining them to a much wider audience in the context of a great story. As Napoleon was quoted (I don't remember verbatim) in davinci code "It is the winners who write the history books"

Has anyone ever read Michael Chricton? He is one to take newer science, physics, or psychology to name a few and build a great story and plot of it, but then make sure that you learn a lot while reading his books.
