Anyone thinking of breaking into Atherton's House...

Post by bassjones »

Don't! mine either. Indiana law now says we can shoot your ass for breaking in, even if you aren't threatening us or armed. Might want to check for NRA bumper stickers on the cars.

I voted for Atherton ONLY because one look at your "Mr. Clean" appearance, most would slowly back away.

Would you just graze me with a flesh wound if you caught me peeing on your lawn?

I wouldn't, but my dog might take a bite out of you for daring to mark his territory.

That's new? Maybe I was spoiled, I was raised with that attitude in a house full of guns, and only had to feel threatened by an intruder to be within my rights to shoot (easy to get away with that as a small female).

Mama: Your not from here..:) It is illegal in the state of indiana to be a good citizen...You are only rewarded if you are a criminal.

The punishment for burglury in Indiana is you get to exchange all the used stuff you stole for nice new stuff of equal or greater value...

Reminds me of a story quite a few years back where two cases came before a judge in Allen county court one after another...

The first involved a truck driver who fell asleep at the wheel late at night on a shift just trying to get home...crossed the center line and stuck a vehicle head on killing the driver...

The second was a man who had broken into a 65 year old man's house to rob him...the old man who lived there had apparently gotten up because he heard noise...the intruder pulled out a gun and shot and killed the man in his own hom.

The case outcome (and the problem with this frickin state) was:

The first guy got 10 years for involuntary manslaughter.

The second...who had been in custody for nine months awaiting the trial in which he plead guilty and was being sentenced that day...got released that day for time served.

Where does this crap slide by and get approved?

Am I allowed to beat the crap out of an intruder using a baseball bat? I played softball for many years, I could do a fair amount of damage. ;)

As for justice... well, after the time I've spent working in criminal justice and studying it, I'll just say that my opinion is that there is all too often a far distance between law and justice.

Well, there has to be a difference between law and justice.

Law is simply a bunch of rules or precedences that have occurred over time, likely only to change due to new cases. Justice does not need the system of law to work, but is a lot more subjective.

Law is not about right and wrong, morals or anything else. It is simply about traveling through a system that is "supposed" to make things better. Sometimes it does, other times it doesn't...but, it is just a system...

Justice is not a system, IMO, its a state of individuals feelings and morals...which can be quite different from person to person...whereas the law tries to treat everone equally...no matter what anyone tells me, I honestly believe that all people are not equal...and therefore should not be treated as such...people, all of us regardless of race, sex or creed, are individuals and can be quite different...therefore a system that tries to force us into the same mold, just doesn't work...

Ok, I'm done for now:)

One of the main points of justice is that all should be treated equal for the same offense, with mitigating factors taken into consideration. If I kill someone on the street intentionally, that's murder. If I kill an intruder, that's self-defense and defense of my child. Same basic offense, different mitigating circumstances.

In the example Cwallace stated, justice was not served. One was negligence and one was murder (and why wasn't that dealt with using the felony-murder doctrine?).

Law should be about justice, but yes, no one can quite agree on the finer points or how they should be dealt with.

at first i was really nervous about A keeping guns in our house. but the more i see of the blatant inhumanity and disregard of man to his fellow man, the more i learn about gun safety, the more familiar i become around personal protection devices, the more comfortable i am with this. and watch out! perhaps i should be on the poll as well? i'm not too bad of a shot these days...............

And far better looking with a gun in your hands than your hubby too, I might add... Maybe you could talk to Mrs. Jones. She's still pretty nervous about guns.

Screw guns...

Considering that I have worked concert security, does anyone remember what happened to Dime Derryl Abott of Pantera?

He, and many others, were shot buy a moron with a gun.

This includes the concert security that night.

I can hold my own in a fist fight or brawl.

I've survived knife fights and have been stabbed (not that I knew there was a knife in the situation when I got into it).

If a gun were involved, I'd be quite dead...

I'm so anti-gun it's not funny.

Has he threatened you? Do you need someone to talk too? Are you trying to get out, but he won't let you leave? Is this a cry for help? Has he brainwashed you? When I was over there for the game that day...you weren't sick...he had you tied up in a closet upstairs...that is why you couldn't come down to say hi...

We need to break TQ out of the asylum that she lives!! Everyone in?

Yeah I am sure that guy had one on him that was registered...criminals will find a weapon...taking the weapons away from legal and sane individuals puts them at the mercy of those that are criminals...those that don't care about the laws concerning guns...

We are a better society when we are not relieved of our right to carry or own a gun...we at least at that point have the ability to protect and defend ourselves...
