I agree with cwallace on this one.

What happend to dime (and the many other victims) was unfortunate to say the least and security should have prevented that guy from ever getting into the club with a gun.

But, while he was on his shooting spree, does anyone remember what the cop did to end it and possibly save many more lives?

I'm pro-gun and pro-gun control.

Hunters do not need automatic weapons, but they do need some high powered weapons. Full auto just kills your aim; so real hunters wouldn't even use such a thing.

Pistols are for killing people only. There is no other purpose IMHO. They are too small of a caliber to bring down game efficiently and without a barrel there is no accuracy over say 30 yards.

Define "game"? My brother in law hunts racoons on a regular basis, and a .22 pistol works perfectly every time. I can only imagine what a .30-06 would do to a racoon.

The best home defense is the right gun and the right dog.

I have virtually no opinion on this at all.

My father started his career by wielding a gun, and now spends it fixing the damage that comes from them.

From MP to Police Chief to GM Security Admin to Nurse. . .

No wonder the dude has three friggen degrees. . .
There are 10 types of people in the world.

Those who understand binary. . .

. . .and those who don't.

I'd say 'game' is animal that is eaten / used after it's killed.

I need to further define 'hunting'.

Is he stalking / hunting the racoons or just treeing them and then blasting away?

If he's treeing them and then taking pop shots with a .22, then IMHO that's not hunting.

High calibers don't leave much when you're hunting small game (and yes, I do know people who hunt squirrels and rabbits for food).

ok, i normally stay completely out of this forum, but since my name is on this one, my turn.

it's no surprise i hunt. it's no surprise i (legally) carry a gun.

jay, i agree- no hunter needs an auto. no hunter i've ever met carries one.

i carry my pistol in the woods when i go out (with the exception of turkey season, that's illegal). i carry said pistol for the purpose of dispatching coyote, should the opportunity arise. the land i hunt has a problem with them.

i carry outside my home because i have the right and ability to protect myself and loved ones. i have NEVER had to pull it. i pray to God i never will.

sure, there are exceptions. there are exceptions to everything. there are a lot of morons that drive cars, too. i deal with most of them driving to/from work.

all i can say is, learn safety. that is the most important thing. period. guns arent bad. people are bad, and use guns for bad things.

blah blah, yadda yadda. let's just go ahead and not break in to atherton's house at all, ok? thanks.

also, 30 yards? i commonly shoot targets at 100 yards. handguns- particularly mine- are accurate to 250 yards +. granted, 4" of barrel dosent give as much spin as 20" (rifle), but that's their nature.

bottom line is, i'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

And don't forget sport/target shooting...like some people play golf..other like to go target shooting...

I like to take my SKS out and shoot at 'stuff' in the middle of nowhere...trees, random debris, and many other things I find along the way...not hurting anyone...not around anyone...

shooting targets is my favorite ever!
old cell phones make fun targets. they shatter into a lot of bits!!

safety is key. you should see me in my safety gear. it's so killer!

and, oh yes, as A said- let's not break into my house.
i'd gladly just invite you over for a plate of spaghetti instead.

Mostly it's for the fur. Which I know will be really popular on this forum.

I like guns... I especially like them in the hands of honest, law-abiding citizens when dealing with scumbag, law-breaking citizens. As long as there are people around who will use their gun to kill or threaten me and my family, I will keep mine around to even things out.

cwallace wrote:Reminds me of a story quite a few years back where two cases came before a judge in Allen county court one after another...

The first involved a truck driver who fell asleep at the wheel late at night on a shift just trying to get home...crossed the center line and stuck a vehicle head on killing the driver...

The second was a man who had broken into a 65 year old man's house to rob him...the old man who lived there had apparently gotten up because he heard noise...the intruder pulled out a gun and shot and killed the man in his own hom.

The case outcome (and the problem with this frickin state) was:

The first guy got 10 years for involuntary manslaughter.

The second...who had been in custody for nine months awaiting the trial in which he plead guilty and was being sentenced that day...got released that day for time served.
You wouldn't happen to have the case law for that? That seems like a REALLY light sentence for murder. Especially a murder committed in the act of another felony. That's aggravated circumstances and would put him in line for the maximum sentence. I'd be curious to see the case law on it. I have my doubts on this one.

There are honest people who have broken laws, and who, other than having broken a draconian law, not used their turn signal appropriately, or driven 10 mph over the speed limit, are not dishonest scumbags.
