The new one looks all right but the old one remind me something of a Misfits kinda thing and that's cool. So I like the old one better than the new one, but whatever floats the boat on the label level.

A quick easy test is to shrink it down to the size of the previous image and see if it communicates as well.
I think a lot of the photo and text will be less prominent. It's a good concept, but not much contrast.

The text kinda gets lost in the new logo. I'm drawn to the picture first, then I notice the band name. Then I kinda have to search for the album. The old logo just kinda pops and everything is right there and easily understood.

Is there any significance to the photo? Is that somewhere local or just something stock?

First off, let's not forget that this is a cd cover, not an avatar. The logo and title will be very easy to see on an object 5.5" X 5.5"

Secondly, we are using the original cover for posters, buttons, backdrop, etc. so fear not, it will be used.

The image has incredible meaning, which is part of the discovery for those willing to venture down that road. If not, well, then it's just a creepy image. The artwork was done by Jan Yrlund, some amazing cd covers for bands like Manowar. Go check out his artwork at:

Oddly enough, and FYI, there's been mostly non-favorable responses to the cd artwork on these forums, but overwhelmingly positive repsonses to it on our myspace site. Hmm. . . ?

I'd bet that a lot of people around here will always like the old cover better because it was done by a respected local artist. I like the old one myself!

Perhaps. I'm happy with both for different reasons.

If I were to do a quick analysis of the art itself (and I am by no means an expert), I think that the old design has a lot more "in yo' face" pop to it. It is poignant, aggressive, and very catchy. It represents a very raw, emotional state.

The second image is more photogenic, so to speak, and it has a much more live or alive feeling to it. It conveys a different message of "this dude is coming for you, b*tch." and while it does not pop or catch the eye nearly as well as the green meanie, it is a good image.

The typography, however, on the new image. . .sucks so bad I want to cry. The text really should be changed, but that's just my amateur opinion.
