WANT TO GET INTO THE MUSIC BUSINESS AND ACTUALLY MAKE MONEY?

Post by SHAWN »

ATTENTION ALL FORT WAYNE MUSICIANS AND MUSIC LOVERS!!

I have recently partnered up with Burnlounge to form my own online music download store at http://www.burnlounge.com/EXALTernative

I am very excited about this new company as it gives Music Fans and Recording Artists a chance to break into the music business and make a living off of something that we all love and that is the gift of music.

If you are just a music fan, you can start your own online music store and promote your favorite music and make a return on every song that is downloaded.

If you are an independent band or artist, by signing a non exclusive license with Burnlounge, you can sell your music to your fans and make up to $.70 per $.99 download and up to $7.00 per album download at $9.99.

TRUST ME. YOU WILL NEVER, EVER GET THIS KIND OF ROYALTY RATE FROM A RECORD LABEL!!!

To find out more go to http://www.burnlounge.com/EXALTernative
to sign up. You can view a short online commercial that will explain more.

In closing, I just want to let you all know that I've dealt with record labels and such for years and this is by far THE BEST program I've ever encountered. This puts the music anad business where it belongs. . . IN YOUR HANDS!!

I was told in 1989 that this would be the future of recorded music. Well, it's here now. This thing is gonna blow up huge and I want as many Fort Wayne musicians to be on the cusp of this as will be possible!! Trust me, iTunes is going down, Burnlounge is going up!! (Cadillac is already planning installations of burn lounge players in their new automobile line)

Ok, go watch the commercial on my burnlounge site (http://www.burnlounge.com/EXALTernative) and if you are interested in taking a very intelligent step towards your music career, please contact me at Migraines@juno.com.

Happy hunting,
Shawn

How is this different from CDBaby

Post by kevrayhiya »

Shawn,

I went and checked out the site you recomend, but I wonder how is this really any different from what CDBaby does? They've licensed out both my cds track by trck to dozens of pay per track sites. I get a small check everyonce in awhile. Plus I'm still responsible for driving traffic to my CDBaby page via my website and other ways.
Please advise.

Hey there.

Not a pyramid, more of a circle. Actually it is a circle.

This is different than CD Baby in that you own an online store where you can sell your own music as well as artists you like. (By the way, you can sell Mike Conley's CD. It's available on Burnlounge.com!) You make a percentage on what the customer downloads from your site. You are also responsible for "driving" (I call it advertising) people to your store.

Biggest difference is that this has the qualities of myspace, iTunes, and ebay all rolled into one. Not to mention the power of Universal/BMG, Warner, and EMI backing it!

Again, I cannot stress enough how important it is for you to make an intelligent decision. In order to do that, go watch the commercial on my page. Costs you nothing. Go to http://www.burnlounge.com/exalternative to check it out.

Anyway, I'm urging everyone to get on board because just like myspace, sooner or later every band will have one of these sites!

Bottom line: You can get on this early or you can be a skeptic and miss the front end of the trend.

Peace,
Shawn

p.s. By the way, Brad. Do you work for a company somewhere? Of course you do! Guess what? Anyone who works for someone else works in a pyramid! The money you make goes to someone higher up than you and you get a percentage. The guy at the top (owner of the company) makes wayyyy more than you. With burnlounge, I make a very decent amount from a U2 download and I do not work for U2, nor do i work for my team leader. I work for myself getting people to check out my store.

So even though burnlounge is not a pyramid, pyramid is not a dirty word to me.

Some BurnLounge info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burnlounge

I found this part interesting:
The music service allows customers to preview and purchase music, and chat through a proprietary client. Customers wishing to sell music through their own custom pages are required to purchase a subscription with fees ranging from $29.95 to $525.95 per year. These fees only allow one to redeem sales points for BurnLounge products; participants must pay an additional $83.40 per year if they wish to exchange earned sales points for money. [8] The amount of compensation for resellers is not disclosed beforehand to interested parties, one must first register to obtain these details. [9] A Fortune article places the commission at five cents per 99-cent download.

anybody smell fish???

:-k

i guess it's good if you got money to blow...not to rain on anybody's parade, but CD Baby still seems geared alot more to us "regular people" just trying to sell our own CDs and put some change in our pockets. good luck though.

Doesn't that kind of say, "No money for anyone without a suit or a lack of intrinsic moral vaules" ? And though I've always though of Cadillac as really having it's finger on the pulse of the music industry, I think I'd have to pass on indirectly fitting the bill for a few executive luncheons.

You know what the next big thing is? People not paying for music at all.

Sooooooooooooooo, have you gone to my site and watched the commercial or are you just a nay sayer?

Oh, just to name drop a bit:

Ted Nugent, Flava Flav, Jeff Gordon (yup, THAT Jeff Gordon), the actor who killed Peter Parker's uncle in Spiderman (sorry don't know his name), Timothy Gaines (ex-Stryper) and Rick Dees (famed radio personality) are all huge burnloungers. In fact, Rick Dees was called in to help consult burnlounge and liked it so much he tried to buy it!!

I'm through defending it, tho. You are either in or not. I just wanted to try and help some local musicians finally get paid for their efforts. I'm cool with the criticisms, all I ask is that you go watch the stinkin' commercial just once!!

This is at a very fledgling stage and it is still developing rapidly. In fact, by the end of 2007, you will be able to download movies and tv shows from burnlounge.

Ok, if anyone wants me to help them, I will!

Peace,
Shawn

Oh and by the way, I did not have the money to blow at all. I just got into this week and spent money that my family could have used. However, I fully believe this is an amazing program and without going into details here, there was a time sensitivity to this week. For just under $150, I expect to see major return!

CARPE DIEM!

And that's quality, I appreciate that. But, after all the musician's traps that I or others I know have fallen into where money was paid and no investment was returned (pay-to-play showcases, or how about the MMS :P ), I think you'd have to provide results for someone locally before many others would bite.

I did watch the commercial. There's a lot to burnlounge, but that also tells me the initial cost of the mega-service is going to be passed on to the same people trying to make it work for them. And while it's true that you won't see anywhere near that level of royalties from a label, you also don't get the level of marketing and promotion and distribution and management you get from a label, no matter what Burnlounge might suggest.

Anyway, if it works, great, I'll sign up... but, because of the fact that it sounds like 8 million empty promises that have come before it, you gotta show some solid results over a decent period of time.

Good luck to you!

Fair enough. I'll keep ya posted as to any and all results.

I thought myspace was stupid in 2003. Now, I'm a myspace junkie! hehe. I completely understand the skepticism.

Thanx for the well wishes!

I'm a music publisher and find this "licensing" to be somewhat dubious. Is this "license" exclusive??? If so, you are just screwing yourself from mechanical, performance and other potential royalties. Any musician, whether recording major label or Indie needs to publish via a reputable publishing company associated with ASCAP, BMI, SESAC or other roalty collecting agencies. There are other more reputable venues for placing material and collecting royalties than this scheme. If you're going to be in this business, then you better learn all the facets about it. I work with the Majors and Indies, and there is no "quick, easy" way to get your CD's out there. If you're looking for major distribution, check out Fontana Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group, for negotiating a distribution and production agreement. BUT...you have to be with a equitable publisher first.

First off, the agreement is non-exclusive. Secondly, this in not a get rich quick scheme. This is a viable way to get your music available for download as an independent artist and get paid decently for it.

I wouldn't think that Ted Nugent would get involved in somthing that wasn't on the up and up. He strikes me as a pretty ethical guy businesswise.

So, who are you? Are you based in Fort Wayne?

You are a music publisher? Define that for me. The only publishing companies I'm aware of are the ones you named: SESAC, ASCAP, and BMI. What do you actually do?

Also, if you would, please name the reputable venues for placing materials for us.

I've been playing a recording original music now for going on 20 years, why haven't we met before?

If you's be so kind, I'm very interested in more information about Fontana. My email address is Migraines@juno.com.

Thanx,
Shawn
