Do you remember where you were 6 years ago?

Post by Krieves »

I was running late for work and had the TV tuned to Good Morning America. They were saying that a small plane crashed into the WTC. When I got to work, everyone was talking about it. Several of us went into our on-site gym (cuz there was a couple of TVs there) to see what was going on. Soon the room was packed.

I think most of the company was glued to the TV as things progressed that day.

I'll never forget that day.

I was waiting for the copywriter from an agency client to arrive when Lisa called down to the studio and said I better come up and look at the TV. I said, "Hon, I've got a mixing session in about 20 minutes." She said, "I'll bet you don't anymore. You better come see."

Cohort walked by and said "planes had hit the WTC".

Found a TV with a lot of people gathered solemnly
around the screen staring.

Very somber day indeed.

Flags out please....

I was also sleeping when a friend of mine called me and woke me up and told me to turn on the TV. I watched in disbelief and then saw the 2nd plane go in.

At work (which was the N. Clinton Wooden Nickel at the time) we were all glued to the television and radio all day.

Later, I went to C-Street to see Grace Engine and get my mind somewhat off of things and ran into the Atherton's, although I guess technically they weren't "The Atherton's" yet at that point.

Sad day. I'll remember it always.

Sleeping in my dorm room. A friend came in and told me that there was something going on and planes had hit the WTC. I told him to stop making sh*t up and rolled back over to sleep. He turned on the TV and I watched for a long time. Ironically, I had to leave to go to a Conflict Mediation class shortly thereafter. Prof let us go, told us to go call our families and be with our friends.

When I first heard it is Was driving over the Tennessee St. Bridge on my way downtown to an all day seminar...that was about 8:45.

By 9am I was sitting at the bar at the downtown hilton watching everything on the TV there with a bunch of people from the conference.

Was there for a few hours before I headed back to my restaurant and then home...

applying for the job I currently have. I got here and the guy who recommended me for the position asked if I knew what was going on and filled me in, then I was filling it out when the second one hit. I finished it up and left. I think that's why I got the job - they figured I was pretty dedicated. Then I went home and being jobless watched 24/7 news coverage for far too long.

Ironically, in the drive-thru at McDonald's running late when Mike North on The Score said they were switching over to CBS news to cover a plane crash in New York. Told the drive thru guy what happened, he didn't care.

Drove to work listening, knowing we were under attack. Watched it for a while, called my wife, had the kids come home from school ontime. Sat outside that evening noticing how quiet it was without all of the air traffic.

I was subbing at local high skool, corraling all the special ed kids who didn't have to take ISTEP in a study hall. One of the kids told me what happened and I thought he was just telling stories. Didn't find out details all day because of the enforced news blackout at the skools.

I went to Wooden Nickel on N Clinton after skool because that was the day Rockin the Suburbs by Ben Folds was released and I had been looking forward to it for weeks. There, I saw the footage of the plane hitting in slo-mo and realized my Ben Folds purchase kinda' paled in importance.

Punch this into your browser:

http://www.scopesys.com/anyday/

Then enter the date...

Strange to see what else happened on this day...things suddenly overshadowed by the WTC attacks..

Just a few noted items...

1974 Cards beat Mets, 4-3, in 25 (7h4m), record 202 plate appearances, Felix Milan & John Milner come to bat 12 times each

1985 Pete Rose of the Cin Reds gets career hit 4,192 off Eric Show of San Diego Padres, eclipsing Ty Cobb's record

1967 US Surveyor 5 makes 1st chemical analysis of lunar material

1961 Bob Dylan's 1st NY performance

1954 1st Miss America TV broadcast

And the list goes on...

Shoot, I was probably the guy who rang up your purchase. I was working at that Nickel until 5 or 6 that day.

i was in my junior morality class. i had an extremely calm teacher (who became my fav teacher much later in life) we funneled into class, joking and whatnot. i remember him saying "class, something terrible has happened and i think you should all see this." he turned on the tv and just like that, i stepped outside myself and watched it all unfold like a movie. still doesnt seem real.. this also reminds me of how angry i felt afterwards and how we all demanded something be done about it... now look where we are..
