Personally, I still think that this teenage girl will turn out to be involved in the dog's death.
I'm guessing one of her scumbag friends from her troubled past...

A 24-year-old man has been arrested, suspected of cutting the head off of a 17-year-old girl's pet dog and leaving it at her front door in a gift-wrapped box.

The man, who is expected to be arraigned Friday, was being held on suspicion of terrorist threats. Police said he may be charged with animal cruelty.

"I think I can sleep a lot better now," said Crystal Brown. "It will make me feel way safer. Now we can walk around the whole block."

Crystal was devastated last month when Chevy, her 4-year-old Australian shepherd mix, went missing. Two weeks after the dog disappeared, a gift box addressed to Crystal was found at the front door of a house she shares with her grandmother.

Inside, Crystal found Valentine's Day candy and a garbage bag containing her pet's head.

Police said the man they arrested lived a few blocks from Crystal and may have had a romantic interest in the girl.

The case drew widespread media attention. The television show "America's Most Wanted" posted the case on its Web site, and donations pushed a $2,500 reward offered by the Humane Society of the United States to $20,000.

Man charged with beheading teen's dog By PATRICK CONDON, Associated Press Writer
51 minutes ago

MINNEAPOLIS - A man accused of cutting the head off his teenage ex-girlfriend's dog and leaving it at her front door in a gift-wrapped box was charged with animal cruelty and torture Friday.

The criminal complaint against Anthony Albert Gomez said police found grisly evidence on his cell phone: video clips of a chain saw being used to sever a dog's head.

Gomez, 24, of St. Paul, was arrested Thursday; a judge set bail at $20,000 at his first court appearance Friday afternoon.

Gomez, who is expected to enter a plea at an April 6 court appearance, remained jailed Friday and couldn't be reached for comment.

The complaint, written by St. Paul police Sgt. Jim Gray, alleges that Gomez acknowledged that the crime happened in his basement but said others were responsible for decapitating the dog and sending it to 17-year-old Crystal Brown. It was unclear from the document whether the dog had been alive when it was decapitated.

Gomez also said Brown was present for the decapitation, which she denied to police, the complaint said.

The arrest was "just a huge relief," Brown's grandmother said.

"It felt like a car was sitting on our chests and now it's off," Shirley Brown said. "It's just unbelievable."

Crystal Brown was devastated when Chevy, her 4-year-old Australian shepherd mix, disappeared last month from the St. Paul home she shares with her grandmother.

Two weeks after Chevy disappeared, a gift box addressed to Crystal was found at the front door. Inside, she found Valentine's Day candy and a garbage bag containing Chevy's head.

Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner said she'd "never seen anything like this after a long time in office. It's hard to imagine what would go through a person's mind to make them do something like this."

Shirley Brown said she and Crystal immediately suspected Gomez, who she said once dated the teen and expressed jealousy when she began dating someone else.

"He was a neighbor. He ate at my table. I've given him rides to work," Shirley Brown said. "I befriended this kid."

The case drew media attention worldwide, and Crystal received an outpouring of support from as far away as Australia. People sent cards, photos of pets and dog toys and treats. A $2,500 reward offered by the Humane Society of the United States quickly grew to $20,000, thanks to donations.

Dale Bartlett, the Humane Society's deputy manager for animal cruelty issues, said it's the most generous response the organization has ever seen to an award. He said the Browns could themselves be eligible for the award, since they apparently helped lead police to the suspect.

Crystal now has a new puppy, named Diesel, and Shirley Brown said they are bonding after just a few short weeks.

"That's just Crystal," she said, "she's always loved animals."
