My winter percussion students ended up getting me a nice umbrella tree bonsai. I haven't started shaping it yet, but it's holding up wonderfully (which is saying something, because I usually kill plants!). I'll post some pics once I start shaping it.

I didn't get a "real" one. I got a store-bought one...aka "mallsai" and from what I read, chances are it won't survive.

Actually, knowing the budget my high school kids were working from(they all probably threw in a dollar or something), mine is probably a 'mallsai' too. It's grown considerably in the 6 months I've had it. Keep the base moist and keep it near a window and you should be fine.
