The are responsible for giving alternatives and NOT closing the door on those options.

It is not their responsibility to GIVE us the ride home...but they bite the hand that feeds them when they prevent those businesses from bringing in new customers...

Eventually there will not be the problem of drinking and driving because there won't be any bar open in this town...all the customers will be in jail or on probation...

The buses won't catch on overnight...and when they are free you never hear about it...if they put them in place and stuck with them it would eventually catch on and people would utilize them.

If you can't rely on them being there in the first place you don't even think about using them...

It's still not the responsibility of the city to provide an option.

The overhead to run busses past "normal working hours" is way to high to ever make this an option for them.

Not about *late night drinkers* but normal use bus patrons. There is just not enough to maintain the bus schedule.

The city owes the pub crawlers nothing.

Take a damn cab.

They owe the tax payers something...

Maybe they should take the buses away from the homeless who use it for a place to 'stay' and the unemployed who use it to go down and pick up the check I provide them each week.

So if it not a feasible project they should just stop ALL buses around the country that run after 11pm...because I am sure they are loosing money hand over fist in those towns as well.

This town has never tried it to my knowledge...and a 'study' isn't going to answer the question...actions are what is needed.

Then to further the argument about the lame police state this city is in you enter the PI factor...You can...and I have seen it happen...get PI for just being OUTSIDE after drinking...NOT just because you are stumbling or a 'danger' to others...just simply being outside..

There is REAL crime in this city that goes ignored...regularly ignored...because they go after the 'easy' money...

Please post an incident when someone was arrested for Public intoxication that either

A. was not deserving of it. Totally shitfaced drunk and a danger to all around.

B. a belligerent drunken butthead that deserved it.

C. was drinking in an area designated as no drinking, like a park.

I am always astounded how you sling falsehoods around and honestly believe what you are saying.

I'm with Ollie on this one. I've never seen that happen, not once. You get a DUI, you deserved it. You get arrested for PI, you deserved it. Most of the po-po in this town are pretty cool - as long as you obey the law - and they've got plenty to do without busting the chops of some 22 year old kid that had one too many beers and stepped outside the bar.

Drunk people on the roads or being beligerent or falling down drunk into traffic are a real crime problem. And I don't want to pay for some drunk's ride home from C-Street on a Friday night because he wasn't smart enough to get a DD to give him a ride. Now, if I'm at C-Street and I see someone obviously intoxicated, I will more than likely pay for his cab if necessary to keep him off the streets, but forcing me to do it, by raising my taxes to run 40 busses with one or two passengers each all over town every weekend night is another story all together. It's called personal responsibility.

Hey thanks for the replies. I'm definitely not looking for a way to drink and drive, and I don't drink to get drunk, I just like a nice buzz. I usually have between 2 and 4 drinks when I go out. I like walking home from bars in summer (if they're close) and I was just worried about being able to do that.

I think I found a good solution though: I ordered a $20 keychain breathalyzer on amazon. I just won't leave any FW bars (walking or driving) until I'm under 0.08.

(I'm moving June 25 btw, hope to meet some of you at bars when I arrive :) )

After reading all the thread above, this still seems to sum it all up the best.

I had 2 months before I was 21 and I got a minor consumption ticket.

Now bottom line I broke the law and I am okay with the ticket, just not the aftermath.

I blew a .006 I had two sips of a beer. Still yes I know I broke the law but I spent the next two years in the system because of it and what pisses me off the most is that I am still drinking. Here is why....

Those who know me, know that I am a drunk, I have come to terms with that. When I got the ticket however, I had been sober for 7 months which for a kid that had been drinking heavily for the 6 years before that, I was very proud.

I was working on my 3rd year of college and was head strong as ever. My relationship with my girlfriend at the time was better then ever since I quit as well.

At this party I lost my will power briefly. I bought a cup for the keg. I took two sips and got frustrated with myself for doing it. So I set my cup down and told my g/f that I wanted to leave because I wasnt ready to be in that situation obviously. Cops came as I was going to my car.

I went to court, and received fines and counseling. I was 100% honest with the counselor about my entire situation and my progress. Well that got me labeled a class 2 alcoholic. 40 hours of counseling (aka $500).

I was working fulltime and going to school fulltime.

Long story short...

Had to drop a lot of work hours in order to make my counseling sessions, which then made me broke. Then i couldnt afford the sessions so I got arrested. Then I started failing at school then got arrested again for failure to pay after losing my job. Then dropped out of college.

Out of all of that "proactive" help i got these neat things...

I lost my job
Lost my perfect GPA
Lost my G/F
Started drinking again worse then before

All from blowing a .006 and being honest.

f**k them.
