review of hatebreed/black dahlia murder/napalm death

Post by switzerland666 »

WARNING: this is just MY take on last night (it will be obvious who i was there to see). surely, many of you will be offended....

napalm death was treated to a terrible mix (at least upfront anyway... million-dollar soundsystem? whatever.), lots of monitor feedback, and no guitar in shane's monitor, but still ripped heads off. their set was fast and furious due to the short set-length but they managed to fit in 10-12 songs anyway, starting with 'unchallenged hate' and ending with 'nazi punks, f**k off!'. played a couple from the new album, some classics (scum and you suffer), at least one from 'the code is red...', and some that were virtually unrecognizable due to the sh*tty sound. shane, mitch, and danny tore it up as barney, who had some mighty terse words for religion when introducing the new songs, was bouncing around the stage as usual.

the rest of the bands really didn't matter:
-despised icon and first blood: mediocre-at-best hardcore
-exodus: meh, they were WAY better when they played the old Sunset back in the day (didn't even play their hit 'toxic waltz', WTF?)
-black dahlia murder: except for the few minutes they were background music to a conversation (which sounded as they did on their last visit), didn't hear 'em as we were elsewhere chatting with barney
-hatebreed: left before they even left their bus

all in all, the best $15 i've spent in a long time.

Right on. That's pretty much how my take of the night was as well. 'cept I ended up leaving as Exodus was wrapping up. I barely believe I actually had two of their tapes back in the early '90s.

I REALLY wish that Napalm could have had time to play Suffer the Children, Twist the Knife (slowly), Ripe for the Breaking, Bread to Breathe, Greed Killing or Plague Rages...
