I mean, your rant is somewhat off-base when compared to those who don't express their true feelings when giving reviews and you've completely ignored that aspect in your steam blowing.

The truth for me is different than the truth for you when it comes to things subjective like a review, but that doesn't make them any less true and I resent your comments because they imply (regardless of intent) something dishonest.
No.

You know what I like about this show (that I didn't see)?

The fact that it's several days over and still advertised on our banner. Al, get to work!!

Hey guys...I think this should be about the kickass Rockshow that went down over the weekend...not my review. Personally I felt with a show of this caliber the bands should be held to higher standards...like nationals. Only one person that self admittingly "boycotted" the show has complained. It was a kickass production and a chance for bands to perform like our bigger national brethren. Great job to the staff and musicians.

Hello everyone,

Paul here, one of the promoters for the RTF Concert series. First I wanted to say thank you all for supporting the show and making it yet another huge success. Without great bands and great fans, this would be a lost cause. This showcase is a tool for the bands to use and they did just that.

I wanted to say a few things in regards to A. Taunts review...

*Flame suit on*......

I agree with most of what A.T. said in his review. A couple of the bands did not perform at what they felt was their personal best. But in all fairness and reality, It is a far different experience playing a stage like that at RTF with bone jarring audio levels, moving/strobing lights and having that much physical room to cover than playing a small club stage. This is a chance for these bands to really turn it up a notch and show their "star" power, I hate that term, but you know what I mean.

That being said, they all did a most excellent job overall. I noticed a couple of the bands were just jaw dropped when they saw the setup. You could see the wheels turning in their heads as to how they were going to exploit this tool that they had earned. Both Mike and I are proud of all the bands that played, proud of the tech crew and I would have ANY of them back again in the future. These bands BROUGHT IT, and made all of our work that we the promoters put into it, worth it. Now if the weather would have cooperated but that's another story.

*Flame suit off*

A note to all the bands out there reading these thread. This is simple but I mean it, play every show like it's your last. Make your mark and the fanbase will grow to warrant more of these bigger showcases. I hear to many bands complain that there are no big shows to play and that Fort Wayne does not support its music scene, that is simply not true. If you continue to give it everything, show like Rock'n the Fort, Maumee Musicfest, etc. will continue to grow and evolve. It takes a truckload of cash and time to put on some of these larger shows, give the promoters a reason to want to partner with you.

A note to all the local promoters out there, we should all be on the same side. I really want to see more promoters and band cliques pull together to put on even bigger events.......Can't we all just get along......('')

I am sorry this is such a wandering post, it is my feeling about the overall subject after being at work all day. Let's keep it positive and give the fans a reason to come out. Ultimately, isn't that what is all about, enjoyment of the music? God knows, it's not for the money.........

Thanks again everyone,

Paul

PROS

Promotion

The show was well promoted by the actual promoters and the bands. Some people frown upon the deal with the bands to be required to sell a set amount of tickets to play the show. I think, while it can be a hefty task to take on it is a very good one. It forces a band to do something they should be doing anyway. Self promotion.

Like Paul said, this scale of event takes a lot of money to put on. Sometimes bands forget the difference between "privilege" and "right". The RTF guys did not have to put this show on. They did not have to ask you to play. End of story. If you are too good to be excited about a chance to play the Coliseum (or any event this big) well then you really aren't the band that should be playing it.

120 tickets per band, yeah that is definitely a lot. Not unlikely by any means though. In my opinion, no band here locally is important enough to think that you dont need to help promote shows. I would love it if every venue that asked us to play actually promoted the hell out of the events but that is not the case and generally not their job (unless they blame you about turnout). You should work your asses off to get as many people to the show as possible, that is why you are playing anyway right? Its not about the money, its about the fact that you get to entertain a crowd (for most original bands that is).

So 120 tickets just means you have to work harder, but at the same time you have 5 other bands doing the same, bringing at a sh*t ton of new people out to your show to possibly become your next fan ( I know that was the case for us, our myspace blew up hours after the show).

and FYI the above issues are actually related to rants about the first RTF show, I did not actually hear anyone complain about the presale ticket this time around.

Production

Though I was a little sad to hear that the lighting computer went down and we werent able to do all of the lighting cues that I spent time planning. Ya know what though.

1. I wasn't expecting that when we were booked
2. I was late as hell getting the cue sheet to them

So I have no room to complain :)

It was still a massive setup that looked damn good and seemed to get better as the night went on despite the earlier technical difficulties.

Sound also got progressively better (pretty much after our set :) ).

As I explained in my previous posts, 90+% of our stage issues were our own fault. We still brought it with 100% enthusiasm. Really we are used to a small 300 watt PA at places like the brass rail with one small monitor for the drums, to hear vocals. So it was new to us, plus we are not used to the space between us on stage.

So in my opinion everything was fantastic. I hope to be asked to do it again (we promise to be a bit more prepared 8) )

CONS

The dressing rooms back stage were missing the following, but not limited too...

  • a wide variety of booze
    young groupies
    tv's to smash
    cocaine
8)

AN ADDED NOTE...

The entire crew was extremely courteous and helpful throughout the event.
