I play an old set of Tama Superstars I purchased new in 1982. I love the way they sound so I don't think I'll replace them anytime soon.

Other drummers hate to play my kit because it's set up so unusually, but I find it extremely easy to get around.

6" tom that Percussion Center put a bottom head on for me. 10" Tom, 18" Floor Tom, 22" Kick w/ Camco double pedal, and an old ratty and rattly Rogers snare that I found at a garage sale for 25$. The toms are mounted on a double stand - as low as possible and flat.

Cymbals: 2 Sabian 16" crashes, 2 Sabian 10" Splashes, Sabian 8" Splash, Zildjian 6" Splash, Wuhan 20" China, Zildjian 13" K-Z Hats combo w/Z on top, Zildjian 22" K Earth Ride, 2 cowbells, an LP jam block, and chime tree.

I used to have the huge kit, but got tired of carrying it around, and as you get better you don't need as much stuff ( I know, I know, Carter Beauford, but he's got roadies).

i used to know a guy who had a kit like that...his had some like teal and pink graphics on it he played reggae in my uncles band.

That was probably me. My drums used to be teal with a purple stripe on them, and I used to I play in a reggae band.

I got to play on a mix of Eric from Shoud and Ryan from Lucidus' kit last night at Legends that was pretty interesting. Those fornicatin PLates are nuts.

thanks for the double bass tips, but was is the heel toe method i keep hearing bout, ive heard its hard but becomes easier than using both feet or something like that

Well you can actually buy a pedal for heel to toe. My setup is a bit different

and doesnt that hurt your ankle turning your foot like that and wouldnt it be next to impossible to play super fast

haha yess i know who you are. you played with my uncle greg in full circle. and yeah i know how odd your set up is ive played it and the cool little template thing you have so its set up just right is kinda innovative.

Yeah, the template thing holds the kick in place, and keeps the double pedal from moving all over the place as well. I have considered having a few of those manufactured and marketing them to drummers. I would call it the KikStop. As far as being a shrewd businessman, well . . . I'm a good drummer.

Is that thing something you think drummers would buy?

yeah i dont think you had a double back then at least i olny remeber that you had a wierd shaped plastic beater. and yes i think some drummers would buy some things like that bc i know a lot of guys who put cinder blocks or other random things infront of their kick to keep it from sliding but i dont know how big of a market there is.

my tama drums are real wood. and they have great power and awesome tone. i would take tama over dw anyday. all the dw sets i have played on sound very attacky and papery to me not enough tone.

Sweet. I have Starclassic Performers indigo blue. I have the birch wood kit. I think they're badass mayself. I haven't played on alot of other drums, but I'm not dissapointed with the way my drums sound and play. So I'm a Tama man at the moment. 5 piece kit, 22x18 bass, 10x12, 12x 14, 14x16 toms. Got a tama maple piccolo 14x4 snare for that snap!!! We play ska and it just fits that style of music we play. Great snare. I'm looking to gettin a cobra double pedal sometime soon. I've never been a double pedal drummer. I'm good all the way around the kit, atleast in my head, but I've never messed with the double, and I so wanna kill some double beats!!!

iron cobras are pretty good double pedals for beginners. i think every drummer i knew growing up had a pair. i recommend focus on consistency above anything else. tapping your feet on the carpet is fine for getting yourself used to using those leg muscles. but nothing with train you more than actually playing your pedals. take some time to work on the tension adjustments, but realize that youll be tweaking those for a while. if you bought a beginners level rudimentary snare drum book, you could use a lot of the exercises to develope foot coordination just as well as your hands (work on hands isnt a bad idea either). playing with a metronome is pretty much the last tip i can think of. nothing will work better for you than to play with a metronome. youre a time-keeper, after all.
