Do you have to be under the influence in order to perform??

I saw at a club, recently, that if you had to be under the influence to have a good time there, you didn't belong. Interesting concept.

And then I notice that some bands are under the influence of something or another, or not at all....

Whatchyathink...

I might sometimes have a beer before a show to "losen up" as they say but mostly I try to be sober...

i ussually get drunk before I play other wise I get too tense and irritable about our/my playing. But we will see tonight cuz I am sick as hell so I dont see getting drunk in my future tonight.

Severence, The belfast carbombs, and Colbalt method tonight at legends!

I rarely drink before a show. I don't want to get sloppy and forget words. Plus I like the nervous energy before playing.

I have been performing off and on my whole life so I dont really get nervous too often (usually only get nervous at a new venue) but I get really anal about everything not out loud either just start thinking about sh*t we should do different and stuff like that so I cant play my best with that sh*t on my mind so thats why I get drunk first. Only problem with getting drunk is your shows all kinda blend together and you dont really remember them that well(duh).

Gotta have a least 2 beers in me, sorry. turntables are pretty sensitive.
the only problem is when I drink, I have to smoke or I go crazy so you'll see me throwing a cigarette down after like two puffs if a solos coming up...it sucks, I go through packs like crazy come gig night.
If you saw kaysans though, you woulda seen me drunk as sh*t by third frames first set...jeeeez, that was fun though, I need to get totally blasted before more sets.

I don't have to get drunk, but I like to be drunk performing or not performing, so I usually get drunk.

I like to get so drunk you don't even know what you're doing up there.

Well I found out last night that taking Suddafed then drinking 4+ pitchers makes for some interesting drumming. I felt like i was drumming on marshmellows.

I usually drink a Red Bull or two before going on stage. I suck really bad when I drink beer before a show. I imagine now it would be even worse since I'm foolin around with my Kaos Pad. So I'll stick with the Red Bulls.

Yeah I could see working a Kaos Pad while drunk being a disaster

I agree with the drinks to loosen up, but at the same time if I drink too much I don't enjoy the show as much. Half of playing out for me is looking back (and remembering) at all the fun I had on stage.

I remember once playing sloppy (drunk) and missing some riff so I looked down at my bass to re-evaluate the situation and all six strings looked the same. Uhhh, how about this note....no, how about here......um, nope....here?....there it is...

I voted never.

I've seen bandmates get sloshed and the whole night really sucked. I think I have done it once or twice, and we never ended up having good shows...

Its tough when the alcohol is flowing, and yeah, a beer or two to loosen up can sometimes help...but I always had more fun being sober and then drinking a bit afterwards.
