Relix Magazine

Okay, so does anybody else (besides Fleek) get this magazine? I've been getting it for a while - free subscription when I ordered a CD through homegrown music network - and I love it. Surprisingly so, given my right-wing political leanings, but it's a great zine. Now they're putting a sampler CD in every issue too, so it's even better and I've discovered some great new stuff, and re-discovered some stuff I hadn't listened to in a while. My favorite last month was Tie-Dyed Keith - stupid name, killer music. This month I'm diggin' on Brian Buckit, Michael Franti (even if the song is a total anti-war protest, it's powerful stuff), and Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise (who I used to listen to quite a bit in the early 90's and didn't realize was still putting out some killer music).

Relix - It's not just for hippies anymore.

I don't get Relix anymore. I was getting Paste for a while but my subscription to that ran out last month. They do the same thing with the sampler except they throw in a DVD sampler every now and then, too. Maybe Relix and Paste are the same company? I'm not sure.

Looks like per Relixdotcom it is 24.95 for a subscription(8 issues per year) and you get a free CD with each one. Per Pastemagazinedotcom you get a subscription (11 issues) for 34.95 and they send a dvd or cd with every issue.

Just thought I would share since I was checking into them from your recommendations.

I don't subscribe but I did buy the issue a few months back with Zappa on the cover. Great magazine but somewhat hard to find.

I'm pretty sure it's available at any/most bookstores.

Or you could order a CD through homegrown music network and get a free subscription for a year.

Bass Jones,

Being an old hippie I guess I dig the spirit of Relix more than some of the music. Never a big Dead fan but appreciated their kynde and genrus vibes. Many of the current bands seem to surpass the Dead in terms of sheer virtuosity, even on a local level. I once played Rock Lobster in Indy and found myself sandwhiched in between two kicking jam bands full of young hippie dudes who def shred jammed or whatever yoyu call it now days. Zappa issue and accompanying cd was great. Zappa rules still!

be kynde,

Love Zappa!!! One of the top two or three musical minds of the last 50 years. Plus he was a Libertarian 8) , not a hippie neo-socialist  which I appreciate. Just messing around. I love hippies - well except that whole Pachouli thing
