Bands That Could Fall Off The Face Of The Planet

Post by bwohlgemuth »

From the Dixie Chicks thread....

Name the one "popular" band that could disappear under mysterious circumstances, and in your opinion, the world would be a better place without them.

Da Rules:
Must have "multi-million" album sales across at least three albums or at least 10+ gold records in the US or Europe.
Must be a Rock and Roll Band (no Yanni, etc)
Solo artists do not apply (we all know the world is better off without MJ,. Mariah, etc).

My contribution. AC/DC Reselling the same song 15 times to clueless fans.

utilizing the same 3 1/2 chords and the
same 2 runs.

I'd nominate Nirvana,... but that
one took care of itself..

Nickelback, and all of the Chad Kroeger clones that have dominated rock radio for entirely too long.

Hell. This is easy. Anything on a Classic Rock station to start.

nickelback

ac/dc

oh, and how about any rapper that only "writes" about money, hoes, cars, and murder. I like rap, but only when it is relevant.

I like rap, but only when it is relevant.
You could say this about every genre!

I like metal, but only when it is relevant.
I like folk, but only when it is relevant.
I like punk, but only when it is relevant.
I like country, but only when it is relevant.

I guess you didn't catch the line before that....no money, hoes, cars and murder. It makes a little more sense when you read it. To me, rap is at its worst when it is "bling", but that is what is popular. Mos Def, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Latyrx, Common....this is RELEVANT rap/hip-hop. Actual music that IMHO matters. This isn't music aimed at a gimmick.

but, keeping with the rules of this thread, I will keep my opinions focused on Rock 'n Roll.

Nope, I read it.

What about metal bands that sing about things that are just as outlandish? Or country artists that fantasize about the old west? Folk artists that sing of a hippy utopia?

Revliance is in the eye of the beholder.

Dude everyone of those guys sings about bling. *sheesh*

Not a big fan of most of that either. You must diversify yourelf to be considered an artist in my eyes. The point that I am trying to lay down here is that you can rap about guns or sing a country song about your truck or thrash to metal about creeping death, but don't let that be the only thing you do. A good artist doesn't just use primary colors to paint a picture.

There is more to music than recycling the same ideas....seek out uncharted territories.

Thanks for the elaboration, it explained alot.

But I give you:

Barrett Newman's masterpiece "Who's Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue?"

Sometimes the old ideas can be the best venues to new ideas; without using new colors.
