If you're a fan of Southern Rock/Americana/Alt. Country you must check this band out.
You can hear their new album in its entirety at
http://www.cmt.com. Just register for free and go to "listening party". Pretty good stuff.
Wilco/Whsikey Town/Sun Volt fans will like mucho.

Werd.
I dig Drive By Truckers. Good stuff.
Dig the female bass player. She's pretty good.
Why can't we get bands like this in Fort Wayne? C-Street. Piere's.

If you're from the genteel south, as am I, tha-at is je-est sul-ightly below the-uh, Mason Dixon Li-Ine ---- then it is actually more like suuuu-thun rah-uk (everything must, definitely MUST, have a minimum of two syllables), for example: yeh-ah (suuuu-thun for yeah or yes), cah-un (can), ro-ud (road), wah-ush or war-ush (for wash), tha-at (for that )etc.....

Is the day-after-release too early to say an album sucks? Or did you have a pre-release copy? I'm surprised you and Sumner hate it so much....all these reviews are calling it a career-best, even freaking Pitchfork gave it a 7.0.
Of course, if it's as "produced" as Sumner says, then I have to assume I would feel the same way you do.
As for getting shows like this in town -- it's a classic problem and rooted in the fact that there is nary a "ticketmaster" sized venue in this town that would book a show that would draw 50 - 450 people (like, say, the RIP Patio in Indy).
That said, I am fighting like a drunken badger to make one, two or maybe three shows happen in FW this summer that will be COMPLETELY and UTTERLY awesome and unbelievable. Love wins.

produced"
Don't get it. They recorded most of it live as far as I know. It has a pretty "dirty" sound to it in parts really. Maybe I don't know what you mean by "produced".

Cool. Now, will the people come? Are they even here? Sometimes I wonder if there are only about 300 of us in this town that like this kind of music. I'm sure there are more, but will they come?

I haven't heard the new album, so I can't comment on the production. I meant to quote my pal David Sumner, who posts here sometimes, who sent me a note that the new album is awful and too slick. I'm still looking forward to hearing it.
As for the shows -- I hope to have confirmations soon -- but I suspect they will be in a setting that will hopefully allow big crowds and be cheap enough that folks who are simply curious will wander in.

ive been listening to it since last friday...probably at least 20 times already; so it's had it's fair chance.
go buy it at best buy for $7.99...id be curious what you think.
that said, I think The Dirty South is one of the best albums so far of the decade.

according to the liner notes there are songs on the album that were recorded the very same day that they were written ... not sure that that necessarily means they were recorded live
i do know that this is the first album recorded without the songs being road tested
pick any song off of decoration day or dirty south ... now play something off of the new one ... ridiculous ... shameful .... as if produced by mutt lange
there may be some really great songs on the album - but its hard to know.enjoy them with the awful production ... what the eff was isbell thinking with easy on yerself ... thats straight up bryan adams drivel ... if he wants to get on the radio or played on mtv he should become a jew and start rapping or wear girl jeans and write songs about his parents divorce/experience with heartbreak
the diggable/pretty good bass player is his wife ... thank god shes not writing songs ... then again maybe she should have ... couldnt be any worse than whats on this album
too bad they didnt survive the experimental phase
it was a good streak while it lasted
heres hoping the next one is worth it
