I could give you a bunch more that write decidedly Christian music who don't lack for creativity.

Christian music is no different than other genres. If you base your opinion on the crap that's on the radio, you're missing all the good stuff.
Damn! Brad...you're sure getting on track !!!!!

This may be off from this topic a bit but spurred me to soapbox once again so please bear with me.

Cursing is one of those things that always amazed me. It is so wrong in our society to say "f**k that" or "oh sh*t", but yet it is okay to say "frig that" or "oh shoot". Is it the actual word we use, or the way in which we use it and our intention behind it that defines?

I'm curious to your thoughts on this.

The NT says something like 'Don't let any corrupt conversation come from your mouth; but only what is useful for building others up." (I know the neighborhood and not the address.) That covers a lot of ground way beyond CUSSING (gossip, slander, etc.). There are the warnings against cursing, and using the Lord's name in vain and such; but it looks like the general directive is not to use words in such a way that they become weapons. The taboo words change in different cultures and situations, so you have to apply a little grace and a lot of maturity. You might be able to say in the right situation, "Get off your ass and get moving in the right direction!" if the situation warranted, and still be building someone up, see?

Linguisticaly, our two big bad boy cuss words contain a SHHH sound and an FFFFF sound, which are like releases of pent-up energy and frustration. Substituting a shoot or a fudge releases that energy and shows a little self-discipline without tearing down those around us.

There's my .02

I see what you're saying. . .but the words themselves, as echo so summarily pointed out, harbor absolutely no good or evil in and of themselves. It is the person and the way in which that person uses them that gives a word ALL of it's power.

Words are man made and their meanings, emphasis, subtleties, and stance is given to them by man (or woman). If there were another language where the word f**k actually meant ice cream sandwich, would it still be cursing to say it? If so, then ice cream sandwiches (of which I have actually shared about two dozen cases with God, herself) are a damned and evil thing and the speaking of them is infernal and will cause the gnashing of teeth.

Pretty silly, if you ask me.

As I said, the nature and harm done by words varies according to the culture and situation. I work In the inner city where the f-bomb is thrown out every other word. When I used to point that out, the speakers didn't realize they were saying it, or that they were even being offensive in that context.
At the other extreme, I could say to an elderly person, "Please sit down." in such a way that they are very offended, even though there is no f-bomb in the sentence – Please SIT down, PLEASE sit down, Please sit DOWN.
The ice cream sandwich scenario above is kind of silly; as you eloquently stated, it is the INTENTION of the HEART that determines whether your language is foul or not, not the words themselves.

Yes, my example was silly. It was on purpose. However, I have an actual example that is not silly, much.

In Equador the Spanish word for jacket is chaqueta. I worked with an interpreter who was from Equador and regularly had to translate this word because we used special chemically treated jackets to prevent molten burns to employees. The same word, chaqueta, however, in Mexico is not used for jacket. They use the word chamara. The word chaqueta means to masturbate. Employees were constantly laughing and snickering at this innocent mistake, not knowing that it was not the intent of the interpretor.

music, like any art, is open to interpretation.
reality is subjective.
you see what you see.
i see what i see.
that's the beauty!
