Band forming near Kendallville - get in on the ground floor

Post by BoxTurtle »

Here's the scoop:

Lead singer/rythm guitar player and very good bass player are looking for a drummer and a lead guitar player.

We enjoy most kinds of rock/progressive/alt. etc. No screaming, however.

Our practice space is at my house in the country. Most equipment is provided. No heavy drug use, please.

We want to find a few guys who want to jam once a week. I am not necessarily trying to "hit the road" as my wife and kids would miss me........but would love to play out once a month or so.

I'm 40. He's in his mid 20s.

Let's rock!

Hey man... drummer here and I may be interested. If you're in Avilla, my girlfriend isn't even five minutes away - over there quite a bit. Please keep me informed. Thanks and take care.

Types of music

Here is our more recent song list - we played a party last summer and since that time have struggled to find a drummer that would stick with the plan. This is not necessarily the tunes we would play but we could look at a few to start with.

Set One

New Girl Now - Honeymoon Suite
Plush - STP
Enemy Fire – Ryan Adams
Driver 8 - REM
Long Way Down – Pete Yorn
Psycho Killer – Talking Heads
Alive – Pearl Jam
Ah Leah – Donny Iris
Yesterday’s News - Whiskeytown
Longview – Green Day
She’s the Blade - Sugarcult

Set Two

Everywhere I go – The Call
Second Guessing – REM
Good Girls Don’t – The Knack
Miss America – Ryan Adams
I’ve Done Everything for You – Rick Springfield
Message in a Bottle – The Police
Crackerman - STP
Hard to Laugh - TPOH
Problem Child – AC/DC
Float On – Modest Mouse
Jumper – Third Eye Blind
Surrender – Cheap Trick

Set Three

I Was the One – Hoodoo Gurus
Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith
So Alive – Ryan Adams
Closet – Pete Yorn
Nothing Lasts Forever (Anymore) - Sloan
Times Like These – Foo Fighters
Little Red Light – Fountains of Wayne
Feel Like Makin’ Love – Bad Company
Drive - Incubus
Interstate Love Song - STP
Love Removal – The Cult
American Band – Grand Funk Railroad

As you can see - we're open to anything. The bass player has been pretty accomodating - but I think he would like to get into some tunes that are a little more complicated. I wouldn't mind branching into some more intricate stuff as well.

Yes we need a drummer. And a solid guitar player. I really enjoy playing guitar but can just as easily put it down and concentrate on being the front man.

I frequently see bands playing out that sound nowhere near as good as we do (did).......so let's see what can happen.

We would plan on playing Columbia Street at least once. I use to play there in the mid 80s and want to do it again..............

Later.

Man, we haven't played some of them in quite a while:)
Yep, I'm the bass player.
Nice to meet you:)

Recently (with our last drummer), we had condensed our sets to the most hard rockin' stuff in our lists.
We were also replacing tunes from some artists(example: we switched Pearl Jam's Alive with Rearviewmirror), so we woud have some stronger tunes that we all agreed on.
Overall we're pretty open to updating and changing the setlist to accomodate interested players.

I guess between BoxTurtle and I, we're into rockin' to just about anything from the 70's, 80's, and 90's.
In fact, we used to joke about becoming a STP tribute band because we played the tunes so well:)

I'd say vocals are the first priority on what tunes we pick; from there, the sky's the limit.
Personally, I'm interested in trying a few more tunes from the 90's era, and there was some tunes we thought about bringing back that our first drummer passed on (because he was...odd:).
And yes, I can play pretty much anything, because I'm Geddy Lee's illegitimate child(lol).

So check us out.
We love to play, and we play rather well!
Later.

As a true Rush fan I would not feel right in trying to pull off a Rush tune. You just can't nail it. The music - possibly.....the vocals......never.

The only one I've ever done was New World Man - which frankly is their weakest tune IMHO. Even that was missing something..............

Oh c'mon. I mean, yeah you have to lose a nut to sing like Geddy; but I've seen quite a few bands pull it off. I've played quite a few Rush tunes over the years and I don't think we did a bad job of it.

Start with anything from before 2112. It's pretty much three chords and grimace musically.

We used to play around with Limelight and Tom Sawyer; the standards:)
And I always jam to Box's Chronicles CD when it's on his PA.
I was also sharing some newer stuff too, like off the Different Stages album and so on.
But yeah, if we don't feel confortable with a tune, we usually don't keep it in the list.
Nothing against any song we play or anything.
But as far as Rush goes, I'd love to play a few choice tunes, because I'm the hardcore fan:)
I've got a trebly voice; Hell, I'll sing it too if I have to!! (lol)
Maybe some King's X too...
