1. I've seen one team kick the ball, and sometimes the other team will catch it and run with it until they are tackled; other times they will drop to one knee; still other times they will let the ball roll on the ground as far as it will. What determines which one of these things they will do?
2. On the 4th down, sometimes the team will run with the ball; sometimes they will try for a fieldgoal, and sometimes they will punt it to the other team. What determines which of these they will do?

1) whether it's a kickoff after a touchdown to let the other team have the ball... if the kick is far enough to reach the end zone they will down it on one knee so the ball starts at the 20..when they let it roll it's usually from a punt that was kicked too far, and it lets them start at the 20, if it was the kick, the same thing can happen.=^-..-^= wrote:1. 2) score, time, and location of the ball will determine what they'll do on a 4th down

Usually, if the recieving team catches the ball more than 2 or 3 yards deep in the endzone, they will take a knee, which means the ball will automaticall be spotted at the offense's own 20 yard line.=^-..-^= wrote:1. If they catch the ball on the goal line (but not in endzone) the returner will run until tackled.
As for letting the ball roll...that's usually on a punt. If the kicking team kicks the ball and the returner moves out of the way (along with his teammates) and no one on the receiving team touches the ball, the kicking team may let the ball roll as far as it can and when it can roll no more, they will touch the ball to down it. Meaning the ball will be spotted where the kicking team touched it.
On 4th down...if the team is running the ball, they probably have pretty decent field position with nothing to lose (they're getting blown out) or they're just trying to burn the clock if they've got the lead. Most of the time, teams will punt the ball on 4th down if they have poor field position or if they're not quite close enough (opponent's 30 yard line or so) to kick a field goal.=^-..-^= wrote:2. Teams will kick field goals when the ball is spotted on the opponent's 30 yard line or closer. I say 30 because that would make it approximately a 47 yard FG. Of course, if it's on the 31, it would be a 48 yarder and so forth. The 29 would be a 46 yarder...but anyways...that's when teams will kick a field goal. When they think they're close enough for the kicker to get it through the uprights.
Sorry for the rambling. Hopefully it helped.

Someone tell me this...
What are the players wearing on their forearms?
It looks like a small band about the with of a sweatband, that is tightly wrapped just below the elbow.
WTF?
I looks like it would serve no purpose.

It is a strap to help contain the muscle and prevent it from litterally tearing...
Much like a back brace to prevent you from throwing out your back...this helps prevent muscle tears...
There is of course much to it that that, but it does serve the purpose..
Oh..and some of them on the sidelines...they are just wearing them to look cool because you know they are never getting into a game..
Chris
