So, Who IS This Dude?

Post by this dude »

Hi!-
I'm David Hall. I'm a blues/rock guitarist from Angola, IN. My band Flying Low Trio has been around in some form or another since August of 2003, and has given about a hundred fifty live performances to date in Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. We don't play Fort Wayne too much, but we've resolved to remedy that NOW. Ironically, I've managed to cover my Ft Wayne media bases fairly well, as we're readily endorsed by Doc, Billy Elvis, Hammer, etc. I'd say really, we mostly need some bar owners to catch our show when we're down there.

Although I've been a toolmaker/machine builder for the past twenty years, I've been pursuing music for about 30. Yep, I'm an old dude of 42, , but everything still works okay. I've gone to great lengths to be the most powerful guitarist I can be, and still not act like a jerkweed about it. I get extremely close to Hendrix, Gilmore, Clapton, SRV, etc., but am by no means a one-trick pony. I play a lot of slide guitar as well, and am quite adept in the old school blues stylings of Muddy Waters, Elmore James, etc. Over the years, I've dabbled in Jazz, Latin, Country, Christian, Metal, Bluegrass, about everything, but always had blues as a mainstay/guide..

I'm a Detroit native, and grew up in southern Jackson county Michigan. Moved to Indiana with THE REST of Michigan in the mid-80's. I'm reasonably well educated, attended Eastern Michigan University (English Major), and my toolmaking apprenticeship, of course, which served mainly to make me detest mathematics of any kind. That's right, 'I've got yer NURBS curve right here, Bub.', and become agitated making change, or balancing my checkbook.

I've been primarily a 'lurker' here at FWM for awile, but occasionally pull a drive-by posting. I eBay stuff for people, so I'm on the ol' idiot-box quite a bit, and FWM is often in my tray for hours at a time whether I'm looking at it or not. Although I've done it in the past, I hereby pledge to refrain from posting 'pre-Folgers' or 'post-Jim Beam', as it seems to create certain unintended 'misgivings'.

Your Pal,
Dave

What part of "Southern Jackson County" specifically? I grew up in Jackson and lived in the Onsted/Brooklyn (Irish Hills) area for about 10 years before relocating to the Fort in 1999.

I'll be danged! I graduated from Hanover-Horton in 82. I worked in the beverage dept at Bill's IGA down the road from MIS there in Brooklyn through high school.
Kinda weird location- HH schools, but Jackson zip code and Clarklake phone number. Springbrook Rd, where I lived seemed to be a border of sorts between townships.
Where'd you live in Jackson?

Park Drive, about half-way between Cascades Park and Sharp Park. I graduated from Jackson Baptist in 1988. My parents live up near Fremont now, so I haven't been back in a couple of years. Jackson really went to hell for a while there. With 127 going North and South and I-94 going East and West it turned into a major drug trafficking area between Toledo, Chicago and Detroit, and nobody wanted to admit it for a long time. I think they're getting it under control now though.

"Jackson really went to hell for a while there."

Don't I know it. My folks moved back up there to Concord, and a lifelong friend (since we were six) is a Lenawee Co Deputy. My sister has always lived on Horton Rd. Tweekers everywhere, is all I hear.

Ah memories. Park hah? I had a friend named Jeff Varney who lived on a side street off Park, down by the curve that points you at Kibby Rd. Went to Parkside. We were in Taekwondo at the Y, and his sister was easily the hottest girl I ever dated! She kinda looks like Peg Bundy now, but anyway...
Jeff was my best guitar jammin' friend- first guy I ever saw who really could get his mind around Hendrix and play like that.

That's exactly the area where we lived... Right across the street from the church there.
